STOUGHTON MILITARY MAN HONORED: Massachusetts National Guardsmen were recognized by the Chief of Staff of the Army during a ceremony at the Association of the United States Army Eisenhower Luncheon at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C., Oct. 23, and Stoughton's Greg Widberg took home two honors.
Lt. Col. Ron Cupples, commander, 1st Battalion, 182nd Infantry Regiment, Massachusetts Army National Guard, and senior enlisted adviser, Command Sgt. Maj. Greg Widberg accepted the Walter T. Kerwin Jr. Readiness Award, presented by Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, chief of staff, U.S. Army, on behalf of the Soldiers of the 182nd. They were voted the Best Battalion in the USA!
The Kerwin Award, which is open to Army National Guard and Army Reserve battalions, is presented to the battalion with the highest level of readiness in its respective component. In order to be considered each battalion must have been rated as having superior performance in eight specific areas as well as meeting other criteria.

The Kerwin award honors General Walter T. Kerwin Jr., former Vice Chief of Staff, U.S. Army, and was jointly created by AUSA, the National Guard Association of the United States and the Reserve Officers Association of the United States.
Widberg says, "Congratulations and thank you to all the Soldiers of the 1st Battalion 182nd Infantry Regiment who earned this award. I was humbled and honored to receive it on your behalf. It is YOUR award."

CSM Widberg was also awarded the Order of Saint Maurice for years of distinguished service to the Infantry community and displaying the highest standards of integrity, moral character, professional competence, and dedication to duty by Major Eric Dinoto.
Last September, Widberg, a husband and father of four, in honor of Stoughton High on the tenth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

ATTENTION VETERANS! The Stoughton Council on Aging presents An Appreciation Breakfast for Veterans on Friday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. at the Stoughton Senior Center, 110 Rockland St.
If you are a Stoughton veteran, and would like to attend the complimentary breakfast, please make your reservations by calling 781-344-8882. Press 1 for the COA, and 1 again for the receptionist.
Veterans may bring one guest for a $3 charge. Tickets may be purchased at the senior center by November 5, or when sold out. Feel free to bring any memorabilia and memories you might like to share!

TRICK OR TREAT EVENT: Another safe option for the kids this Halloween takes place on Friday, Oct. 26 at Stoughton High School. It all starts at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Bring the children in their costumes. There will be trick-or-treating, games and lots of fun for all elementary school students and younger. A parent or guardian must accompany the children at all times.
The event is presented by the Stoughton High School Student Council. There is NO COST for the fun and games. But, they will be accepting monetary donations for Cradles to Crayons.
