SUPPORT OUR LIBRARY ASSOCIATION (SOLA) announces its formation as a 501(c)3 non-profit entity in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
SOLA was formed as a required fundraising and support arm of the planned expansion.
“As part of the public library construction grant application, we need to show strong community support,” explained Pat Basler, Stoughton’s Library Directory.
“And SOLA will do just that,” she continued.
The Library expansion plan was in May 2011.
, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners asked the town to send in revisions of the redesign by January of 2012 due to concerns regarding the internal layout of the proposed building, putting the library in position to receive state funding for the project in 2013 or 2014, Basler told About Town in July.
Meanwhile, SOLA will be soliciting memberships at various levels as well as personal, corporate and endowment donations.
“We want everyone in town to be able to be part of this group and so we have set single memberships at only $10; Family Memberships at $25; Friend Memberships at $50; Business Memberships at $100; and Champion Level at $150,” said Dori Frankel, SOLA’s new President.
Other recently elected officers include: Dolores Cummings, Vice President; Marylou Giordano, Treasurer; Ann McDonald, Secretary; with Melinda Rios, Linda Nobil, Arlene Bown and Sharon Fradkin as initial Board members.
“We are proud to support our wonderful Stoughton Library in this manner and look forward to having everyone in town be part of this,” Frankel said. “Our work has just begun.”
There will be opportunities for residents to join posted at the Library and in local media and there are openings on the Board of Directors for interested Stoughton residents. Plus there will be working committees to organize fundraising events to support the Library.
SOLA’s official mission is to support the functions, resources, services and needs of the Stoughton Public Library; to foster public support for the necessary development of the Library and to encourage and receive gifts and bequests for acquisitions, which may otherwise not be available to the Stoughton Public Library.
SOLA is not involved with the library expansion project or decisions around that project – that will be handled officially through the Stoughton Public Library, its director and Trustees as well as Stoughton’s municipal leadership.
“We will be doing some fun events to gather people around the expansion process as it moves forward and to help promote the great programs at the library,” Frankel explained.
“We hope our great Stoughton residents will come on board, support our Library and have some fun!” she said.
SOLA will have a mailbox at the Library for correspondence and to receive initial membership funds.
The address at the library is 84 Park St., Stoughton – feel free to send membership requests or checks made out to SOLA to this address c/o Marylou Giordano, Treasurer. If you require a receipt, please state that in your correspondence.
