SHS GRAD RAISING FUNDS FOR GIRLS' CHARITY: Jenna Policow, a 2010 graduate of Stoughton High School, is a junior at Drexel University in Philadelphia. She will be running in the Philadelphia Half Marathon this weekend, raising funds for Girls on the Run.
Girls on the Run, according to its website, is a "non-profit prevention program that uses the power of running to help prepare preteen and early teen girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The program focuses on building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health, recognizing that every girl is special, that every girl is strong, that every girl is a winner."

"Since moving to the city of Philadelphia for college, I’ve seen so many people less fortunate than me. The city is a melting pot, mixing the privileged college students, with extreme poverty, and other issues.
"Although my dollar donations to the homeless on my walks through center city satisfy the need to help, I find myself wanting to do more. Because of this poverty, young girls are suffering in so many ways. Girls don’t have the education, or the motivation to think about their future and their goals, to love themselves for who they are, and to live a healthy lifestyle. I want to be a part of helping these girls to become someone they never knew they could be. I found an organization that does that, Girls on the Run.

"While I may not have the funds to help them, I do have something that will - my legs! I have always loved to run, and now I can use that to help them. I will be running 13.1 miles in the Philadelphia Half Marathon, on Saturday, November 17th, dedicating it to Girls On The Run. I have pledged to raise $750 for them, and their fight to help young girls unwrap their potential.
"With that said, it would mean the world to me, if you could help me reach my goal to raise $750 dollars for GOTR. I have never run a marathon, and it’s so exciting to be able to dedicate my first experience to this amazing charity! Whether you are a woman, or you have a special one in your life, we all connect in some way. Making a donation will help ensure that these girls can become healthy, and driven; sisters, mother, wives, and friends."

THE STOUGHTON VISITNG NURSES: PAST & PRESENT. The Stoughton Historical Society (at 6 Park St. in Stoughton's downtown) will host a presentation from the new Director of the Stoughton Visiting Nurses, Janiece Bruce, on Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. This service to the Town began with the hiring of Miss Alice Murphy in 1909. Come and learn about their history and their current services. Light refreshments will be served.
Also, NEW and on display at the Historical Society: two recently acquired paintings; a Mortimer Lamb and a Charles Vermoskie; a brilliant, blue crazy quilt produced by women in the Vaughn (later McNamara) family in the 1880’s; a Timmons family quilt, recently restored by Helen Sears; and a beautiful wedding dress worn in 1936 by Mary McNamara.

A COUPLE OF FAIRS: The First Congregational Church of Stoughton at 76 Pierce Street had its Annual Fall Fair on Saturday, Nov. 10. There was some beautiful Christmas gift items, some delicious baked goods, raffles and more. John Baglole was the Duke of the Book Room.
Stoughton Life Teen's Holiday Craft Fair was also held on Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Church at 122 Canton St. That one also featured a ton really nice crafts (my wife bought some), raffles, silent auction, and some great baked goods.
(Those cookie walks are NOT good for those of us not able to exercise...but that's another story.)
