ABOUT TOWN: MAXX Stepping Up For SHS Athletics; Flag Football Registrations (And More...)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: To Stoughton's Linda Lodge Foye. Linda, a Westwood native, is married to Rick Foye, an Iraq war veteran.Happy Birthday to Rebecca DeBorst, a Bentley College graduate, who is a Software QA Engineer at RBD Consulting. A Watertown, CT native, she now resides in Stoughton.

And, a Happy 30th Birthday to Jon Saval, Stoughton High Jazz Band graduate, and a well known bass guitarist who performs all over New England with different bands. His parents, Jerry and Merle Saval, are quite proud of him!

COMMUNITY FAIR FOR THE KNIGHTS: at 49 Rose Street (across from the Stoughton Police Station) will host a Community Fair to support the Stoughton High School athletic programs.

On Saturday, August 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be games, a dunk tank, relay races, finger printing, face painting, demonstrations, National Guard, and much more!

STILL TIME TO REGISTER FOR FLAG FOOTBALL! The Stoughton Youth Flag Football League has the following openings in the following divisions as of 7 p.m. August 9, 2011:

  • Instructional Coed Division - Children 5 or 6 years of age by September 1, 2011: 8 roster spots
  • Peewee Coed Division - Children 7 or 8 years of age by September 1, 2011: 1 roster spot
  • Junior Coed Division - Boys 9, 10 or 11 years of age by September 1, 2011 or Girls 9 or 10 by September 1, 2011: 5 roster spots
  • Senior Boys Division - Boys 12, 13 or 14 years of age by September 1, 2011: 3 Roster spots are open
  • Senior Girls Division - Girls 11, 12, 13 or 14 years of age by September 1, 2011: 7 roster spots.  

If you are interested in registering, please call at 781-341-3380 ASAP to reserve your child’s roster spot. Click on the link to check out their website.

FORE THE OLD COLONY HOSPICE: It's the Old Colony Hospice's Golf Classic IX, Monday August 22 at Thorny Lea Golf Club, 149 Torrey Street in Brockton. Registration starts at 11 a.m., with shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. 

There will also be a dinner and auction following the golfing. To reserve a space at dinner ($50 per person), call 781-341-4145 x204 by August 17 @ 4:30 p.m. or email developmentoch@oldcolonyhospice.org

SATURDAY, YOU CAN PULL WEEDS FOR FUN! It takes place Saturday, August 13, from 9-11 a.m. at Blue Hills in Canton. Want to learn to help native plants and animals survive? Join the Friends of the Blue Hills for one morning – or more – to help remove invasive species in the Blue Hills.

You will help pull plants that are disrupting the habitat and health of the park’s native plants, animals and insects. Bring water and snacks. To register or for questions email biodiversity@FriendsoftheBlueHills.org or call 781-828-1805.
