ABOUT TOWN: Get Into the Swing of Things; Making Memories Last in Stoughton (And More...)

GET INTO THE SWING OF THINGS: If you have missed the first couple of Concerts in the Park, sponsored by the Stoughton Lions Club, you hit a bad note. During the first couple of weeks, you missed some great performances from Political Asylum and Easy Access Band.
This coming week, there's something that some of my older readers will REALLY appreciate! The Westwood Swing Band comes by with their 16-piece dynamic sound! Mark Rogers from the Band acts as an emcee, and introduces some of the amazing tunes of the Swing Era to the crowd.
And, it takes a strong vocalist to deliver, and they have that in vocalist Gale Riley.

The group has been bringing the sound of the big band era to the people of Massachusetts and vicinity for the past 20 plus years! Concert is held at the Charles Large Gazebo at on Sunday, from 5-7 p.m.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket and your dancing shoes for a delightful trip to the 'big band' era. You will hear the sounds of the great Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington and many more favorites, and you won't be able to stop your feet from moving!

The Westwood Swing Band consists of executives and professionals by day, and performers by night. They play music that is enjoyed by all age groups.
Free admission. No bathroom facilities are on site.

MAKING MEMORIES LAST: The is applying for a grant to the Mass. Memories Road Show to have it come to Stoughton in 2013, according to Library Director Pat Basler.
Basler tells About Town, "The goal is to provide a well-advertised Open House at the Library and invite Stoughton citizens to bring in up to three important photos of their life. These will be scanned and returned and then added to the state archives to create a snapshot of who makes up the town of Stoughton at this particular moment in history."
Basler continued, "They will also have video space set up so folks can tell a short story, and family or group photos will be taken for people to take with them."

The Mass. Memories Road Show likes to see a wide range of community support. YOU can help! Send a letter of support for the project, by July 27, to pbasler@ocln.org. Basler is looking for volunteers for the planning team, as well.

PLAY BALL! STOYAC (Stoughton Youth Athletic Club) will be holding a STOYAC Softball Tournament fundraiser "Stoughton Summer Smacka" for girls in the 12-year old and 14-year old age groups this weekend, July 20-22 at the .
STOYAC is hosting 22 teams (11 in each age group) and the main sponsor is Reebok of Canton. Stoughton has teams playing at each level.
Games will be running all weekend, from Friday night at 6 p.m. to the Championship game on Sunday at 4:45 p.m. (this includes games all day Saturday as well!).
There will be concessions, vendor tents with food and giveaways. 50/50 raffles will be conducted throughout the weekend - one specifically will be directly donated to the family of , who lost his life tragically on July 4th.
Consider coming down to the West School Complex to enjoy some food, fun and entertaining softball.
The STOYAC program included youth programs in softball, basketball, football and cheerleading.
