ABOUT TOWN: Friends For Seniors Holds Annual Christmas Dinner (And More…)

AMAZING CHRISTMAS DINNER: Stoughton's senior citizens were treated to an amazing Christmas dinner Saturday afternoon, and the cost was a mere three dollars.  It comes from the hard work—and monetary contribution of a great organization called Stoughton Friends for Seniors.  

Their President, Dennis McCarthy, thanked all the volunteers from his hard-working Board for once again presenting a delicious meal, raffles, and fun to a sold-out crowd of hundreds of Stoughton Seniors in the downstairs hall of the .

The youth of the Town were also involved in a big way. More than 30 members of the at came to serve on Saturday, while nearly twenty came the night before to set up the room at the Immaculate Conception Church.

The food was delicious, as always, due to the hard work of Sons of Italy's Mike Sammarco, and his crew of Charles F. Dreist Sr. and Jr., Denis Gada, Al Ventarosa, John Amaru, Dottie DiStefano, Dan Skiba, and Cathy Brooks.

Faces In the Crowd: Selectmen Cynthia Walsh and John Anderson, Police Chief and Fire Chief . Chief Shastany was recognized by Stoughton Friends for Seniors Secretary Lorraine McCarthy for his being selected for training by the FBI, from January through March. 

Playing a big part in the success of the event were the many volunteers from the National Honor Society, who set up and/or served.

The list is long and includes: NHS President Lauren Cellucci, Katherine Chlus, Leesa Snyder, Kevin Overko, Cassie Luce, Kayla Floro, Jeremy Lim, Paul Comeau, Kelsie LaFerriere, Jeff Zeserson, Michael Silveria, Nicole Daniels, Taylor Goodrich, Angela Vieira, Tim McGrath, Sandra Khuu, Stephanie Amaral, John Stewart-Racicot, Alex Peixinho, Liz Roch, Kathie Turner, Danielle McCollaugh, Nicole Hayner, Zachery Finer, Gabe Garcia, Heather Baeta, Ava Dubovy, Jessica Morse, Kenny Boykin, Ben Call, Mackenzie Hudson, Josh Dressler, Rebecca Goldberg, Eddie Ruddy, Kristina Kozak, Loreen Louiny, Anthony Jeudy, Rachel Resurreccion, Dahlia Kushinsky, Julia Rodenbush, Kerlyne Jean-Baptiste, Ally Cohen, Muhammad Mir, Reshma Patel, Adam Elmowitz, Mitchell Price and Jasmine Scott. 

Other volunteers included Charlotte and Sara Mullen, Jackie Bartlett, and Bobbie O’Meara

Friends for Seniors, which gets the majority of its funding from their annual golf tournament, is run by a great group of people. In addition the McCarthys, John O’Meara is Vice President, Mary Laurenson is Treasurer/Recording Secretary. Others on the Board include Bob Mullen, Mike Sammarco, Gerald Capozzoli, Rev. Joseph P. McDermott, Joseph & Alice Araujo, Stoughton Housing Authority Director Gregory Bartlett, Chrissy Henriques, Lee Lysko, Paula Myers, Alfred and Josephine Sargent, David Sheehan, Florence & Paul Stearns, and Phyllis Tabbi.


MORE WEEKEND EVENTS: Two other big events were held in Stoughton on Saturday. There was the Holiday Shopping Day. See the photo gallery for a few of the people who sold their wares that day.  

And, the on Park Street had a big Art Association opening with refreshments, and a number of artists with their work.

Owner Elaine Felos Ostrander, who currently resides on Cape Cod, came by for the festivities. See the Gallery for some of the highlights of that event, as well!
