ABOUT TOWN: "Black Hawk Down" Commander Boykin to Speak About US/Israeli Relations

ARMY LT. GENERAL TO SPEAK IN STOUGHTON: Ahavath Torah Congregation's Hausman Memorial Lecture Series presents an evening with retired Lieutenant General William G. "Jerry" Boykin for “A General’s Perspective: US/Israeli Relations – The Ties That Bind."

It takes place Wednesday July 11 at the , 1179 Central Street in Stoughton.

The meet and greet BBQ with Boykin will begin at 5:30 p.m. - $100 paid RSVP (cash or check only). The general event will begin at 7 p.m. - $20 checks to be made payable to ATC. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Homes for Our Troops (www.HomesForOurTroops.com)

LTG (ret.) Jerry Boykin was one of the original members of the US Army's Delta Force. He was privileged to ultimately command these elite warriors in combat operations. 

Later, Boykin commanded all the Army's Green Berets as well as the Special Warfare Center and School.

In his thirty-six years in the army, Boykin also served a tour with the CIA. He has participated in clandestine operations around the world and served his last four years in the Army as the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence.

He has played a role in almost every recent major American military operation over the past four decades, serving in Grenada, Somalia, and Iraq. He is currently an author and teaches at Hampden-Sydney College (Virginia).

Most people might remember his exploits surrounding the Black Hawk Down incident in 1993. 

His books include Never Surrender: A Soldier's Journey to the Crossroads of Faith and Freedom, and he served as team leader for the Competitive Analysis The Team BiII Report.

Boykin is one of this country's leading experts on defense policy, terrorism and the US-Israel relationship.

POLICE NEWS ROUNDUP: Congratulations to Stoughton Police Officer Jon Gagne for completing the Sig Sauer Sniper Academy. This gives and the regional SWAT team another qualified force option practitioner.

And, Sgt. John Bonney and Officers Sandra Barrett, Jen SullivanChris Grover, and Emmett Letendre completed the MPI Social Media in Law Enforcement course.

A CAR WASH, A MINI CAR SHOW, AND A YARD SALE: The students at  at 421 Page Street as a Community Service washed 100 people's cars for no charge on Saturday, June 23. 

No donations were accepted by the kids. In fact, everyone got their car cleaned and got a free hot dog and soda, too!

Also on Saturday, Stoughton Boy Scout Troop 88 and Cub Scout Pack 8 had a Yard Sale and Mini-Car Show (after the rain stopped) at the , at 404 Sumner Street.

WEDDED BLISS: Stoughton native and my old gym friend Nicole LaCasse tied the knot last weekend.  She and her new husband Ben live in Bend, Oregon.  

Of course, her brother Ryan owns a Super Bowl ring from the Indianapolis Colts and was one of the best football players to ever step on the field at Stoughton High.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to former Selectman and FinCom Chairman John Kowalczyk; and to Audrey Mutascio, a Stoughton resident, who works at Wellesley College, and is best known for working with the theatre group, Stoughton Stars with her sons.
