Raul Costa

Raul Monte Brasil Costa, a resident of Stoughton since 1958, died peacefully at home on Friday Oct. 12. He was 86. Mr. Costa was the loving husband of Mary A. (Fernandes) Costa for over 54 years.

Born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal, Mr. Costa was the son of the late Antonio and Maria Diamantina Dacosta Melo. He worked for the Draper Brothers Company in Canton for many years until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Costa is lovingly remembered by his family as being a family man who loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Costa is survived by his son, Anthony Costa and his wife Lassalete of Taunton. He was the loving grandfather of Gabriella, Isabella and Cristina. Mr. Costa was the brother of Elsa and Eva Melo of Fall River and many deceased brothers and sisters. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His funeral was held from the Farley Funeral Home in Stoughton on Tuesday, October 16, followed by a Funeral Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. Interment was at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton.

Audrey (Taylor) Rodriques

Audrey (Taylor) Rodriques, 80, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Tuesday, October 16 at the West Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brockton after months of failing health. She was the wife of the late Joaquim "Jack" Rodriques.

Born in Woburn, she was raised in Boston, graduating from Dorchester High School for Girls and Boston State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science Degree, before moving to Stoughton in 1968.

Mrs. Rodriques worked as a Teacher in the Boston Public Schools for 43 years. She was a devout member of the Charles Street A.M.E. Church where she was a proud member of the Usher Board and Sarah B. Gorham Women's Missionary Society. She was an avid bowler, loved to travel and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Donna Holmes-Lockett of PA, Lawrence E. Holmes, Jr. of Milton, Bruce Holmes of Stoughton and Maurita Chukwuezi of RI. She was the mother in law of Marvin Lockett of PA and Stephanie Lewis of ME. She was the loving sister of Juanita Lopes of Abington, Edwina Taylor of Beverly, Christine Hill of Brockton and sister in law of Lillian Mallory of CA. She was the stepsister of Marcella Tatum, Muriel Tatum, Tony Dance and Charles Dance. She is also survived by many grandchildren, one great grandson and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) in Stoughton on Sunday, October 21 from 3-6 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the Charles Street A.M.E. Church, 551 Warren St. in Roxbury on Monday, October 22 at 11 a.m. with visitation prior from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton with a repast in Roxbury at Charles St. A.M.E. Church.

Donations in Audrey's name may be made to a scholarship fund being established at the Church.

Sumner Platten

Sumner M. Platten, of Stoughton, formerly of Newton, entered into rest October 16, 2012.

He was the beloved husband of Frances Platten. Devoted father of Steven Platten and his wife Sheryl of Newton and Paul Platten and his wife Pamela of Newton Centre. Loving brother of Sandra Borkum and her husband Sumner of Plymouth and FL and Arlene Baxter of Pittsburgh, PA. Cherished grandfather of Jaclyn and Robert Bralower, Rachel Platten and Kevin Lazan, Justin Platten and Melanie Platten. Stepfather of George and Maureen Scala of Stoughton and Marilyn Kelly of Stoughton.

He was a US Army Veteran of WWII.

Funeral services were held October 18 at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel in Brookline. Interment followed at Temple Emeth Memorial Park.

Robert Goodman

Robert Vernon Goodman, of Stoughton, died on Monday, October 15, 2012. Beloved husband of Janice (Polikoff) Goodman.

Loving father of Geri Coady and her husband Patrick of FL and Audrey Blanchard and her husband  Richard of Stoughton. Cherished grandfather of Brian, Scott and Melissa Blanchard, Kevin and Kimberly Coady.  Dear brother of Harold and Ronald Goodman and the late Louis and Irving Goodman.

Services were held at the Schlossberg Solomon Memorial Chapel in Canton on October 17 followed by a burial at Sharon Memorial Park.

Joseph Lonergan

Joseph Edward Lonergan of Mansfield, formerly of Stoughton, and a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, passed away on Tuesday October 16,2012 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was 81 years old and the loving husband of the late Pearl F. (Arachesky) Lonergan to whom he was married to for over 41 years.

Mr. Lonergan is survived by his children, Jean Johnson and her husband Mark of Mansfield, Steven Lonergan and his wife Marla of Sharon, his three sisters, Frannie Ritchie of Florida, Millie Doucette and her husband Robert of Florida, Barbara Jackson and her husband Wayne of New Hampshire and his brother Roland “Rollie” Lonergan of Stoughton. Other survivors include his 5 grandchildren, Tara O’Keefe and her husband Ryan of Mansfield, Jessica Johnson and Marissa Johnson also of Mansfield, Abby Lonergan, Sarabeth Lonergan both of Sharon and his 3 great-grandchildren, Cayden Campbell, Joey O’Keefe and Maggie Rae O’Keefe.He was also a brother to the late James Lonergan, Pauline Salvason, Pat Hammond, Margaret Nelson, Leo Lonergan and Helen Galant.

Born June 21, 1931 in Stoughton, Massachusetts he was a son to the late James W. and Mary ( Kernen ) Lonergan. He attended Stoughton Public Schools and was a graduate of Stoughton High School. He also served his country honorably as a Tech. Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the proud recipient of both the Army Of Occupation Medal while stationed in Germany and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Lonergan was employed by Schofield’s Concrete Forms in Burlington,MA as a Concrete Foreman for over 40 years. He also was known to assist his son-in-law with various HVAC projects over the years. He was an avid Boston Bruins hockey fan and enjoyed doing yard work. He took great pride in his homes appearance. Joe had a very quiet personality and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also cherished the quality time he spent with his brother Rollie. He also loved a good cigar. Joe was also a collector of old coins and bottles.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday October 20, 2012 from 4 - 6 p.m. from the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street in Stoughton. His Funeral service with military honors will be held at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Cremation will follow and his interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown,MA 02472 in Joseph’s memory, would be appreciated.

Andrew Kapravy

Andrew J. Kapravy, 79, of Stoughton, died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Tobey Hospital in Wareham after a long period of failing health.

Born in Boston, he was raised and educated in Westwood and was a graduate of Westwood High School. He was also a graduate of Boston University. He was a Veteran of the US Army.

Mr. Kapravy worked as an engineer for Boston Scientific for many years. He was a well respected engineer and holds several patents for his work, including one for his team's invention of non-kinkable wire on a heart stent. He retired 15 years ago. He was a member of the Boston University Alumni Association. He was a political buff and car enthusiast and in his free time, he enjoyed sailing, antiquing and watching Fox News.

He was the son of the late Andrew and Jennie (Horodysky) Kapravy and the brother of the late Alice Henault. He was the uncle of Sherrie Laferty of VA, Jerry Close of Carver, Michael Close of Kingston and Edward Close of Franklin.

Funeral services will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) in Stoughton on Tuesday, October 23 at 10:30 a.m. Visiting Hours will be Monday from 5-8 p.m. Interment will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury.
