The following are obituaries for Stoughton residents or those with Stoughton ties for the week of July 30: Dorothy E. Brawders; Margaret M. "Peggy" Whiffen; Edward W. Dubay, Jr.; and Helen C. Smyth.

Dorothy E. Brawders

Dorothy E. (Lysko) Brawders, 88, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died at Baypointe Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brockton on Wednesday, August 1. She was the wife of 59 years of Edward A. Brawders.

Born in S. Acton, she was a resident of Stoughton for the past 76 years. She was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1942. Mrs. Brawders was a secretary for Butler Plumbing in Brockton for 23 years before retiring in 1986. She enjoyed quilting, needlework and gardening.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Brawders is survived by her children, James E. Brawders and his wife Sandra of Whitman and Andrea L. Brawders of Stoughton, as well as her grandson, Gregory Brawders. She was the sister of Lydia Burnett of FL and the late Elliot and Paul Lysko. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) in Stoughton on Monday, August 6 at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton.

Margaret M. "Peggy" Whiffen

Margaret M. "Peggy" (Minton) Whiffen, 73, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully, Friday, July 27 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of 53 years of the late Henry J. "Hank" Whiffen.

Born in Boston, she was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School, Class of 1956.

Mrs. Whiffen was a resident of Stoughton since 1965. She was a homemaker. In her free time, she enjoyed trips to Foxwoods, Bingo, gardening, watching the Red Sox and especially spending time with her family. She dedicated her life to taking care of her husband.

Mrs. Whiffen is survived by her children; June M. Bouchard of Mansfield, Susan LoDico of East Falmouth, Michael D. Whiffen of Easton, Jeanette L. Whiffen of Abington, Christine A. Ringler of Foxboro, John T. Whiffen of Avon and Charles E. Whiffen of Stoughton. She was the sister of Bernadette Andrews of TX and Robert Minton of Norwood. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral was held from the Farley Funeral Home in Stoughton on July 31. Burial was private.

Edward W. Dubay, Jr.

Edward W. Dubay, Jr., 89, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died at Kindred Hospital Northeast in Stoughton on Friday, July 27. He was the husband of the late Eleanor M. (Benson) Dubay.

Born in Boston, he was educated in Milton schools and graduated from Northeastern University. He was a resident of Stoughton for 42 years after living in Whitman for 12 years.

Mr. Dubay was a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Army Air Corps and a Veteran of World War II. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Whitman for 12 years before retiring in 1970. He was Past Commander of the American Legion in Whitman and a member of the VFW Post 3389 in Randolph and Post 697 in Whitman.

Mr. Dubay is survived by his children, Pamela J. Rogers and her husband Paul of ME, Bonnie L. Olson and her husband Butch of Brockton, Edward E. Dubay, III and his wife Donna of VA and Cheryl Ann Guerrera and her husband Ernie of Easton. He was the brother of Mildred Smith of Milton and the late Robert Dubay and Dottie Pickering. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service was held from the , on July 30.

Helen C. Smyth

Helen C. (Russo) Smyth, 83, of Stoughton passed away Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Charlwell House in Norwood. She was the wife of the late officer Thomas F. Smyth, Jr. of the Stoughton Police Department.

Born September 16, 1928 in Stoughton, she was the daughter of the late Emilio Russo and Antonetta (Tedesco) Russo. She was raised and educated in Stoughton. Helen worked for many years for Corcoran Shoe and Barbour Welting Company.

She enjoyed music, movies, painting, dancing, restaurants, Italian food, home cooking and camping.

She was the loving mother of, Janet M. (Smyth) Cowgill and her husband James of Avon, Lorraine A. (Smyth) Bisson and her husband Richard of Stoughton, her loving son with whom she made her home with, Sgt. Robert F. Smyth of the Norfolk County Sheriffs Department; her loving grandchildren, James Cowgill, Jr. of Avon, Linda Bisson Inangelo and her husband Michael of Rockland; her great grandson, Darrien Inangelo of Rockland; her three sisters, Emily Gichel of Raynham, Rose M. Russo of Middleboro and Babe Ann Russo of S. Easton. She was the sister of the late Alfred, Peter, Pat, Edward “Sonny” Russo and Tootsie Russo. She also leaves her companion that she spent all her time with, Mascot Rinty and she also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral was held from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home in Brockton with a service at the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. Interment took place at Knollwood Memorial park in Canton.
