The following are obituaries for Stoughton residents or those with Stoughton ties for the week of August 6: Jean M. (Sullivan) Melito; Hugh J. McSheffrey; and Catherine L. (Tibets) McDermott.

Jean M. (Sullivan) Melito

Jean M. (Sullivan) Melito, 78, of Stoughton, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 7, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, after being stricken ill at her home. She was the beloved wife of over 60 years of Peter J. Melito, Sr.

Born and raised in Brookline, she was a resident of Stoughton for over 45 years.

Mrs. Melito worked as a bookkeeper for McKesson Liquors and for Martignetti Liquors for many years. She retired over 15 years ago. In her free time, Mrs. Melito enjoyed watching all sports, especially baseball, and loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Vincent "Mickey" Melito and his wife Rose of Attleboro, Jean Paciocco and her husband Wayne of Mashpee and Peter J. Melito Jr. of Stoughton. She was the sister of Eileen Flynn of Northboro and was predeceased by 7 brothers and 2 sisters. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service was held from the in Stoughton on Saturday, August 11.

Hugh J. McSheffrey

Hugh J. McSheffrey, 50, died Sunday, August 5, 2012 at his home after a long illness. He was the son of the late Henry and Margaret (McCole) McSheffrey.

Born in Dorchester, he was raised in Neponset and graduated from high school in Chicago, where he lived for several years. Mr. McSheffrey lived in Stoughton for the past 8 years, previously living in Florida.

He worked in construction for many years and also worked for Reebok in Stoughton. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hiking the Blue Hills and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his son, John Barton of Roslindale and his siblings, Mary Murphy Freller, Margaret Rampino, Kathleen Ricottelli, Michael McSheffrey, Patrick McSheffrey, Annie McSheffrey, Sheila Lieneman and Rose Klumak. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was held in the in Stoughton on Friday, August 10

Catherine L. (Tibets) McDermott

Catherine L. (Tibets) McDermott, of Plymouth, a cherished Housewife and mother formerly of Stoughton and Boston, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, August 5, 2012. She was 82 years old and was the beloved wife of the late Garrett J. McDermott Sr.

Loving mother of Catherine F. McDermott of Portland, Maine, Helen L. Quist and her husband Paul of Plymouth, Garrett J. McDermott Jr. and his wife Linda of Halifax and Bridget L. Simpson and her husband Russell of Upton. Other survivors include her brother Frederick P. Tibets of Bridgewater, 10 Grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 step – great-grandchildren. She was also a sister to the late Helen O’Brien, James Tibets, Harold Tibets and Ronald Tibets.

Born September 7, 1929 in Boston, Massachusetts, Catherine was a daughter to the late Harold and Helen C. (O’Day ) Tibets. She attended Cathedral High School. Her family, grandchildren and pets of all kinds gave her great comfort and joy throughout her life here on earth.

Funeral service was held August 9 at the in Stoughton. Burial followed at the Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton.
