Obituary: Joao A. Sousa, Involved in Stoughton Portuguese Community

Joao A. Sousa, 66, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, after a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was the son of Palmira (Gonsalves) Sousa of Stoughton and the late Joao Sousa.

Boring in Flores, Azores, Portugal, he was raised and educated in Flores. He was a veteran of the Portuguese Army. Mr. Sousa moved to the United States in 1974 and settled in Stoughton.

He worked as a metal fabricator for Wehsco in Stoughton for more than 35 years and then for the last five years at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton as a housekeeper.

Mr. Sousa was a active member of the Portuguese community in Stoughton as a member of St. John's Filharmonic Society, Club Luis de Camoes and the Holy Ghost Society of the Azores.

The funeral will be held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Route 27), Stoughton, Saturday, Jan. 18, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton at 10:30 a.m. The visiting hours will be Friday, Jan. 17, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton.
