The Benefits Of Drinking Water With Lemon

I've always been told that drinking water with a lemon in it was good for me but I've had my struggles with it. I have very sensitive skin and sometimes break out when I drink too much of it. Today I'm trying it again and boy I'm glad I am! Lemons are a good source of citric acid, potassium, calcium, phosphorous and magnesium. These are minerals that are good for our bodies and sometimes it's hard to find in other foods. This post will give you the benefits of tossing a slice of lemon into your water regularly and just might change your mind next time you get asked "Would you like lemon with your ice water?"

Medicinal Values
Drinking water with lemon in it helps prevent the decomposition of tissue and rid your body of unhealthy bacteria. It assists in "cleansing the system of impurities" and will help prevent disease. It is effective at dissolving uric acid (often the cause of pain and inflammation in joints) and other poisons in the body. Liver Benefits
Drinking water with lemon is great for your liver because it can help your liver develop more enzymes out of the lemon faster and more than any other food. It can also help fix the oxygen and calcium levels that are broken down in the liver. This affects our blood oxygen levels and how we feel.

Digestive Aid
One of the most important benefits is the one it has on the gastrointestinal tract. Drinking water with lemon helps to digest food properly and eliminate things that aren't necessary for our body to function properly. Straight lemon juice is actually similar to saliva and our stomach's digestive juices and as a result, helps to relieve symptoms of indigestion. Water with lemon in it also helps to eliminate waste more efficiently; this is probably one of the reasons I felt like I had spent most of the day in the bathroom throughout the day.

Colds and Flu
As I said before, drinking water with lemon helps us get rid of some of the bacteria in our bodies and this is especially good when it comes to cold and flu season. Bacteria and viruses tend to love living in acidic environments and drinking water with lemon in it increases the alkalinity in our bodies and essentially flushes out the unhealthy bacteria.

Drinking water with lemon also helps lower high blood pressure, relieve asthma symptoms, help dissolve calcium deposits and when pregnant, build strong bones in an unborn child.

After reading this, the next time you get asked "Would you like lemon with your ice water?" you may decide to say yes!
