Health & Fitness

Nice to meet you!

Welcome to J-Mull's Fit Club! I thought it would only be appropriate to introduce myself on my first Stoughton Patch blog. I'll start by sharing my story with you and my reasons for doing this blog.

My name is Jenn and I'm a fitness enthusiast. I wasn't always this way, though. I'm in my 30s now and have really just gotten back into health and fitness. Back in my younger years, I was into a sport every season. That all changed when I went to college. I stopped playing sports and the pounds packed on. I'm only 4'10" and I eventually grew to be 140lbs. When I graduated, I met the love of my life - a 6' tall, thin man that melted my heart. We eventually got married and life went on. He was fine with the way I was, but deep down, I want happy with myself.

A little over a year ago (April 2012), I decided I needed to make a change. We were planning on going to Vegas with some friends and one of our friends was teeny, after just having a baby. In my mind, I was going to be the "fat girl" in Vegas. Keep in mind, I am not calling anyone fat. This is the way I felt about myself. This was my first real a-ha moment.

My neighbor introduced me to something called Shakeology. She said it was a meal replacement shake that I could have every day and it would help me. Weight Watchers and just going to the gym hadn't helped so I thought "Why not?! I've got nothing to lose but pounds, right?" I started drinking the shake and working out 5+ days a week. This was a HUGE change for me. Before this change, I was working out maybe twice a week but I didn't care, I needed it. After all, my goal was to wear a bikini in Vegas.

Slowly, the the pounds came off and I got to wear that bikini in Vegas. I was still overweight but way better than I was before I started. I even started to feel better about myself and that was so surprising to me. Who knew losing weight would bring your self-esteem up?!

Flash forward to today. I'm down 3 dress sizes, I'm no longer on high blood pressure medicine, I'm no longer about to be out on high cholesterol medicine, my asthma is totally in check and I feel so much better. I have way more energy than I had last year and my life has changed forever. A-ha moment number two!

One thing I have learned over the past year and a half is that if you want to change, it's not a diet that you need...it's a lifestyle change! Nutrition and exercise go hand in hand and if you have one and not the other, it won't work.

Now that I've learned how to eat right and get healthy, I want to help as many other people as I can do the exact same thing. I am NOT a nutritionist and I am NOT a physician. I am a regular person that has realized just how important it is to be healthy and fit. If you're looking for a lifestyle change, I can help you!

This is blog will offer suggestions for healthy/clean eating, reviews on at-home fitness programs, ways to help with mental stability and also share the struggles I have because you might have those too. I hope you will join me on my journey, and start your own too, as we try to end the trend of obesity on this planet!
