Electric Run 2013

The Electric Run in Foxboro, MA was awesome! I didn't know what I was getting myself into but I'm glad I signed up.

When I logged into Facebook a few months back, I noticed my friend Corinne had posted a status asking people to join Team Bug Zapper. Immediately, I was intrigued. I asked her what the heck this team was and she said it was a team that would run/walk a 5K together at Gillette Stadium, at night surrounded by neon lights and techno music. I thought "Yes please!"

I started to check out the website and realize just how much fun this would be. I am a very shy person but wanted to have fun with it. I went all funky with my outfit (neon blue Capri running pants, neon orange t-shirt, neon yellow socks and tank top and of course the neon tutu).

The day of the event came and I was super excited. We met up in the parking lot and Corinne had a pair of wings for me. That day I became the neon fairy that I never knew I would become. It was hysterical, and so out of my comfort zone, but awesome. We got to the start and got ready for the fun to begin.

Immediately when you got to the start, it was clear the party had already begun. There was loud music, neon everywhere and tons of people ready to have some fun. Now, 15,000 people were there to run this 5K so it took us a while to actually get to the start line but once we got there, we were ready. The countdown happened and off we went.

We ran some and walked some but all along the route, there were places to stop and check out the lights, the people in costumes and just take in the atmosphere around us. Each turn seemed brought us something new and exciting to see - more neon lights and more music. It was so cool. Then we saw it. What we thought would be the hardest part of the night. It was the ramps to get to the top of the stadium. I took a breath and knew I could do it.

There were 9 ramps in total. I looked at my husband and said "I am running the whole way up". I wanted this to be an accomplishment for myself and I knew I could do it...and I did!

This 5K was like no other that I've done before but it is definitely one I'd do again and recommend it for anyone that is looking to have a good time while doing something healthy. We're planning on doing it again and if you want in on Team Bug Zapper, let me know...we'd be glad to have you!
