Countdown to First Christmas Parade of Lights

By David "Spanky" Sousa

The holidays are coming I’d like the people of Stoughton and all surrounding towns to know that we are having the first ever Christmas Parade of Lights being done at night instead of the afternoon on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013.

It’s a great pleasure and honor to once again have Mark Snyder MC our very first historical Christmas Parade of Lights.  This year's grand marshalls are some of the first responders and survivors of the Boston Marathon.  The military will also be present to help us remember Pearl Harbor Day, Dec. 7.

The Stoughton Community Events Committee is looking for people to decorate vehicles, trucks, motorcycles with lots of lights, the more lights the better.  We are also looking for food vendors to sell food at Halloran Park; vendors can register on line at http://www.stoughtoncommunityevents.org/category/christmas-parade/ click on the vendor registration link.

Parade will depart Stoughton High School at 4:30 p.m. with a set up time of 2 p.m.  The parade will go down Pearl Street, through Stoughton Center where Mark Snyder will be announcing the participants at the reviewing stand.  Then it will continue towards Park Street, left onto Leach Street, left onto Halloran Park.

At Halloran Park, there will be activities for the kids while they wait to see Santa and Mrs. Clause, and hopefully, lots more surprises. The children instead of hanging their stocking by the fireplace they need to bring an extra pair of socks so that they can play on the moonwalks. Come have dinner with us, there will be plenty of vendors.

How great will this be?  USA Strong! Boston Strong! Stoughton Proud!

I look forward to seeing the parade route 100s deep all the way to the park. On behalf of the Stoughton Community Events Committee (SCEC) and myself we thank you, the people of the town and all the participants of the parade.  This parade would not be possible without the help of the DPW, Police, Fire, Recreation Department, towns people, and town businesses for the support they are giving myself and the committee.

I’ve never gotten so much response for a parade as I have for this one.   Everyone is looking forward to the Christmas Parade of Lights. It is a wonderful feeling, god bless Jim Callahan, god rest his sole, for allowing me to help him with the Christmas parade that he started all those years ago and for believing in me.

I hope he is looking down on us December 7, 2013 and that we are making him proud and I will continue to do the parade in his honor. Everyone is looking forward to the parade and I will try my best for it to be a great success.
