Consumer Shred Day

The Patrick
Administration’s Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation and the
Registry of Motor Vehicles will hold its first joint Consumer/Shred Day on August
14 at the Brockton RMV. Consumer/Shred Day is an educational initiative designed
to bring information and services directly to the general public. Consumers are
encouraged to shred their personal financial documents – such as credit card
bills, bank statements and expired insurance policies – after the documents are
no longer needed. Shredding shields personal data and protects consumers from
possible identity theft.

Together with the Office of
Consumer Affairs, representatives from the Division of Banks, Division of
Insurance, Division of Professional Licensure, Division of Standards, and the Department
of Telecommunications and Cable will be on hand to discuss issues and provide
information. The RMV has taken many steps to ensure driver privacy protections
and to educate the public on the importance of practicing privacy in everyday
life.

FREE shredding provided by Doc Shredding Corp of Wrentham will
start at 11:30 a.m.
