Change the life of a child with School on Wheels of Massachusetts

Can you spare a couple of hours a week to influence the future of a child impacted by homelessness?

School on Wheels of Massachusetts(SOWMA) is seeking one-on-one afterschool tutors to work with children in grades K-12 starting in January 2014. Tutors are needed at shelters, hotels, and elementary schools in Brockton, Norwell and Stoughton. More than 160 students have benefitted from SOWMA’s afterschool tutoring services in the Fall of 2013.

Each SOWMA tutor is matched with a student for one or two hours a week. Tutors work with students on homework and school projects. Tutoring sessions are designed to fill in the layers of learning that may be missing due to frequent moves and school absences. Every SOWMA tutor is expected to serve as a mentor and positive role model. Teens and adults aged 18 and older are needed. No prior experience is required.

SOWMA volunteers must attend an instructional Orientation Session and Resource Workshop before beginning to tutor. Orientation Sessions and Resource Workshops will be held in January at the SOWMA headquarters, 790 W. Chestnut St., Brockton, MA 02301, on the following days and times:
