Shaw's in Stoughton to Close, Company Says

Identified as an unprofitable store "not meeting company goals," the Shaw's in Stoughton will close by August 3, the supermarket chain announced this past Monday.

The Stoughton Shaw's, located at 666 Washington St., is one of six local stores the company will close by that date (the others are Fall River, Fairhaven, Taunton, and Westerly, RI and Woonsocket, RI), according to the Boston Globe.

Shaw's in Stoughton anchors the Shaw's Plaza. It is one of the largest employers in town, with more than 100 people working there, according to data from the Massachusetts Labor and Workforce Development.

Missing Stoughton Teen Found Safe

Mia Masone, a 16-year-old Stoughton teen missing since July 6, was "found safe," Stoughton Police reported late Wednesday afternoon, July 10.

Masone was last seen at her Stoughton home at 9:25 p.m. on Saturday, July 6.

Stoughton Police issued an advisory with Masone's picture Monday afternoon, July 8 in the hopes it would lead to finding the missing Stoughton teen.

Seven Stoughton Natives Sworn in as Stoughton Police Officers

Calling it a historic moment for the town, Stoughton Police Chief Paul Shastany introduced the department's seven newest officers at this past Tuesday's Board of Selectmen meeting.

Daniel Barber, Heather Cheever, Tom Covino, Tim Hansler, David Hoadley, Albert Medeiros, and Michael Medina - all Stoughton natives - graduated from the Boston Police Academy and were sworn in as Stoughton Police officers on July 9.

New Frozen Yogurt Shop Coming to Stoughton

A new frozen yogurt shop will be opening up as early as next month in Stoughton at Walgreens Plaza on Washington Street.

At their July 9 meeting, Stoughton Selectmen unanimously approved the common victualler license for iCraze 2 Frozen Yogurt, a self-serve frozen yogurt bar.

This will be the company's second location. iCraze Frozen Yogurt has been operating in Shrewsbury for the past year, and was looking for the opportunity to expand.

Flatbed Truck Crashes into Woods on Route 138 in Stoughton, Leaks Diesel Fuel

In trying to avoid a collision with a landscaping truck pulling out of a nearby parking lot, a flatbed truck ended up crashing into a wooded area on Route 138 in Stoughton Monday morning near the Easton line.

The drivers of both vehicles were not transported for medical reasons, according to Stoughton Deputy Fire Chief Greg Goldberg, but about 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the flatbed truck and into the woods.
