Two-Alarm Fire Causes Severe Damage to Stoughton Home Monday Night

A two-alarm fire caused severe damage to a single family home in Stoughton Monday night.

The Stoughton Fire Department responded to a report of a bedroom fire at 19 Churchill Ave. at 6:24 p.m. Jan. 7. The fire started in a first floor bedroom in the front of the home and spread to both levels.

There was extensive damage to the home, but there were no injuries to any of the home’s occupants or first responders on scene.

Stoughton Fire Department Fights Two-Alarm Garage Fire Friday Morning

The Stoughton Fire Department also responded to a large garage fire at 21 Wales Ave. (side street off Plain St.) Friday morning, Jan. 11.

The two-alarm fire caused extensive damage to the garage, which is not attached to the nearby home. Captain Scott Breen of the SFD said the garage is considered to be a total loss.  No vehicles were parked in the garage, but personal property was stored there, Breen said.

Stoughton Drunk Driver Sent to Jail After Killing Stoughton Woman

The unlicensed illegal immigrant drunk driver from Stoughton who crossed the center line of Route 138 in Canton on June 24, 2012, , was sent to jail Jan 9., according to a press release from the office of Norfolk County District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey.

Auricelli Braga, 32, from Stoughton, pled guilty in Norfolk Superior Court to both charges against her: Motor Vehicle Homicide by Negligent Operation while Operating Under the Influence and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, according to the DA's office.

The judge imposed a sentence of 2.5 years in the house of correction with two years incarcerated and the balance suspended during 5 years of supervised probation," Morrissey said in the release. Braga will face deportation proceedings after she finishes her incarceration.

TD Bank Robbed for the Third Time in Three Months

TD Bank at Roche Brother's Plaza in Easton, located just over the Easton/Stoughton line, was robbed Thursday for the third time in three months.

Easton Police Chief Allen Krajcik said police responded to a 911 call at approximately 5:30 p.m. Jan. 10 reporting a bank robbery.

Krajcik said that on arrival, police learned that a black male, approximately 6 feet tall wearing a hooded sweatshirt passed a note to a teller demanding money.

Two From Mansfield Dead After Drowning in Cancun

Two Mansfield women have died after drowning while on vacation in Cancun, Mexico according to WBZ.

The two women, identified as Donna Batta and Gail Binmore, traveled to Cancun for a vacation last Friday along with two other friends.

Three of the women took a late night dip in the water Tuesday, Jan. 8. The current was too strong for them and North Attleboro resident Lisa Marie Tondreault was the only person to escape the rough waters and strong undertow.
