Region Roundup: Man Shot in Stomach; Million Dollar Marijuana Bust; 1000 Point Scorers (And More...)

A Tri-Congregational Discussion on Regionalization for three local synagogues was held on Thursday, Feb. 14 at Temple Beth Emunah in Brockton. Representatives of Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton and Temple Beth Am in Randolph also attended the meeting, which attracted over 250 interested parties.
The plan, still in the discussion phase, is for these three temples to merge into one congregation and use an interim site (Temple Beth Emunah) until a new building is constructed.

The recommendation to merge, and begin attending services at the interim location in July of 2014 is not finalized. Each of the temple’s congregations still needs to vote on the plan. The vote is scheduled for April 4, 2013.

Stoughton Police Assist in Million Dollar Marijuana Bust in Canton
The Stoughton Police Department along with other state and local police agencies arrested a Brooklyn, New York man in Canton on Feb. 15 for allegedly accepting a marijuana delivery valued at nearly $1 million, according to reports.
Thomas Jin Kim, 30, of Brooklyn, was taken into custody after taking possession of nearly 300 pounds of pot and was subsequently charged with trafficking in marijuana.

Drugs may have been the focus of a conflict that led to a man being shot at his Smith Street Rear home late last Sunday night. Attleboro police say they found illegal drugs, marijuana plants and more than $24,000 in cash at the home of shooting victim Michael Briggs.
He was in stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital as of Monday, police say. A search for the shooting suspects is ongoing, and police are following "several leads," according to a press release from the Attleboro department.

Needing four points to become the 14th player in school history - boy or girl - to score 1,000 career points, Stoughton High boys' basketball star Marcus Middleton stole the ball twice in the first quarter last Sunday night against Boston Latin in the opening game of the Walpole Hoop Classic and both times headed to the hoop for an uncontested layup.
The second steal came with 1:57 left in the first quarter. The senior captain, known for his tenacious defense, jarred the ball loose around mid court and headed to the basket. As Boston Latin's Adam Mikula closed in, Middleton spun to the left of the basket and laid the ball in with his right hand, scoring his 1,000th career point.
Middleton finished his four-year varsity career with 1,026 points.

Oliver Ames senior girls' basketball captain Caitlyn Abela also joined the 1,000-point club.
The milestone came midway through the second quarter of the Walpole Tournament Championship game against Medfield this past Wednesday.
