Flash Flood Watch Issued for Stoughton Area

Severe thunderstorms expected to bring torrential rainfall on Thursday.

The National Weather Service is predicting a rough day for residents of Massachusetts and said earlier today they plan to release weather watches as the day progresses.

The first watch has just been issued for flash flooding. The flash flood watch will go into effect at 4 p.m.

The region can expect thunderstorms later today, with some being severe. These storms may produce heavy downpours, with 2 to 4 inches of rain possible in these storms.

The greatest risk for these storms is in western Massachusetts, but the entire state has the potential to see severe weather, especially between 4 p.m. and midnight.

Despite cloud cover this morning, partial sunshine is expected to break through in the early afternoon, allowing for an unstable atmosphere, which will help build for multiple rounds of thunderstorms, the NWS said.
