Delays on Turnpike St. Expected in the Week Ahead

The Stoughton DPW said roadwork is likely to cause traffic delays on Turnpike St. (primarily from its intersection with Pleasant St. to its intersection with Page St.) this upcoming week.

On Monday, Dec. 5, Wednesday, Dec. 7 and Thursday, Dec. 8, the right lane of Turnpike St. from its intersection with Pleasant St. to its intersection with Page St. will be closed from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The Stoughton Department of Public Works said a detour would be set up, but said to still expect delays.

There will also be water main work done on Turnpike St. beginning at approximately 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, with the work concluding at approximately 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8.

The DPW said that residents may experience discolored water and low water pressure problems during this work. Residents may also experience traffic delays, so you may want to seek alternate routes during this work.

Those who experience water discoloration should flush their water systems by opening the cold water faucet for a few minutes and then waiting for about an hour.  If the water is still not clear, repeat the flushing procedure.

The Public Works Department regrets that it cannot be responsible for any damages incurred as a result of this activity, which is a necessary and a normal function of the water department.

This is part of a larger project to repair Turnpike St./Route 139, running from the intersection at Pleasant St. to the intersection with Page St.

The project is expected to last until January 2012.
