1. Male Breast Cancer Awareness Week in Massachusetts

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, but Stoughton State Representative Louis L. Kafka recently sponspored a bill, which was passed and signed by Governor Deval Patrick, that designated a week in October for Male Breast Cancer Awareness.

According to a press release from Rep. Kafka's office, the American Cancer Society reports approximately 2,190 cases of breast cancer in men will be diagnosed in 2012, and 410 men will die from it.

“A lot of people who I’ve been talking to about this bill were unaware that men were even at risk for this type of cancer. But it’s very real, and men need to know to be aware of it and get checked,” Rep. Kafka said in a release.

2. Homework Center at the Library

The Homework Center will be available for students in the Wales French room of the Stoughton Public Library on Mondays from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

3. Senator Joyce Holding Office Hours

State Senator Brian A. Joyce (D-Milton), who represents Stoughton in the Massachusetts State Senate, will be holding office hours in the Fitzpatrick Room at the Stoughton Town Hall on Monday, Oct. 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

5. Reminder: Thursday is Food Pantry Day in Stoughton

Stoughton resident Peg Carbone continues her effort to curb hunger in Stoughton, personally picking up donations for the food pantries every Thursday.

Here's a note from Peg: "I pick up non perishable food and also household items every Thursday, anywhere in Stoughton and deliver them to the food pantry. Please tell your friends and neighbors. One item, one bag or several, and I will pick them up every Thursday."
