1. How Many Days Left Before Start of 2012-2013 School Year?

Including Friday, July 27, there are 40 days left of summer vacation.

The first day of school for the Stoughton Public Schools' 2012-2013 school year for students in grades 1-12 is Wednesday, September 5, 2012 (after Labor Day). Teachers (Unit A) and nurses report the day before.  

Kindergarteners in the Stoughton Public Schools have a couple of extra days of vacation with their school year starting Friday, September 7, 2012.

2. Weekend Weather Forecast

According to the National Weather Service, the weekend forecast for the Stoughton area is as follows:

• Friday, July 27: "Scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms" during the daytime, and at night, "a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms."

• Saturday, July 28: During the daytime hours, "a slight chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 9 a.m. Patchy fog between 9 a.m and 10 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%." And at night, "scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Patchy fog after 9 p.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms."

• Sunday, July 29: "Isolated showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 78. North wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%" during the daytime hours and "isolated showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog after 4 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. Chance of precipitation is 20%" in the evening and overnight hours.

3. Cash Mob Stoughton at Jenna's Place

“,” which has the goal of funneling support (and money) to local businesses, has selected on Pearl St. as its "hit" this week.

The group has been "mobbing" the restaurant at 434 Pearl St. all week.

4. Free Golf Clinics for Veterans on Fridays

As a way to thank veterans for their service, there will be free golf instruction for veterans at the on Park St. in Stoughton by Bob Beach, PGA Golf Professional, on Fridays in July and August - July 6, 13, 20 and 27 and  August 3, 10, 17 and 24.

All clinics run from noon till 1 p.m. Clinics are sponsored by Golf for All.
