5 Things, December 19: Early Release Day Added to Stoughton School Calendar

1. Reminder: Early Release Day Added to School Calendar

There will be an additional early release day for students in all grades of the Stoughton Public Schools. An early release day has been added for Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 - the last day of school before winter vacation.

As with other early release days, middle and high school students will be released at 11:32 a.m. and elementary students at 12:20 p.m.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I write to inform you that the Stoughton Public Schools will be following an Early Release Schedule on Friday, December 21, 2012, the day before Christmas vacation begins.  This means that middle and high school students will be released at 11:32 a.m. and elementary students at 12:20 p.m.  

Due to State mandated requirement to implement the new Massachusetts Teacher Evaluation System, it is necessary for us to add an additional Early Release day to our schedule in order to complete teachers’ training in this new and very different system in a way that has been negotiated with the Stoughton Teachers Association.  This is not a decision taken lightly, and I am very aware that an additional afternoon off from school could present an inconvenience for families.  After looking at all the options, this day was chosen, as potentially the least disruptive.

3. Teddybear Storytime at the Library

Come join Peggy Sewcyk Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the Stoughton Public Library for Teddybear Storytime. It's for children ages 3.5 to 6 years old.

The Stoughton High varsity hockey team takes on North Attleboro Dec. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Asiaf Arena in Brockton (Stoughton's home rink).

The Stoughton High wrestling team is also in action Dec. 19 with a match at Bridgewater-Raynham.
