1. MAXX Hosting Weekend Bone Marrow Event and Jiu-Jitsu Tournament

This Saturday, December 15, 2012 from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. at MAXX Training Center (49 Rose Street in Stoughton), you can register as a bone marrow donor.

MAXX is also hosting its annual in-house Jiu-Jitsu Tournament on the 15th. Doors open at 10 a.m. for registration ($30 for participants and $5 for spectators).

2. Stoughton High Academic Hall of Fame Looking for its Next Inductees

The Stoughton Public Schools and the Stoughton Historical Society are pleased to announce that nominations for the 2013 Induction Class to the Stoughton High Academic Hall of Fame for Extraordinary Achievement are being accepted.

The Hall of Fame recognizes graduates of Stoughton High School who have achieved notable success in his/her chosen profession either from a singular extraordinary accomplishment, career of exceptional achievement or significant contribution to society.

Candidates may be nominated by any former Stoughton High School student, any present or past employee of the Stoughton Public Schools or any present or past Stoughton resident.  All previous nominations will be reviewed.

The deadline for applications is Friday, Dec. 14, 2012.

3. Recreation Department Offering Ski and Snowboard Lessons for Stoughton Youth

This winter, the Stoughton Recreation Department will be offering a five week instructional ski and snowboarding program for children ages 8 to 15 at the Blue Hills Ski Area.

Lessons will be given on five consecutive Thursdays beginning January 10, 2013. The program will be held from 4:15 - 5:30 p.m.

Registration for this program closes Monday, Dec. 17.

4. God of This City Tour 2012

Join Stoughton Life Teen, LIFT Ministries and the Office for the New Evangelization of Youth & Young Adults on the fourth night of the God of This City Tour as it makes a stop in the South Region of the Archdiocese of Boston here at the Immaculate Conception in Stoughton.

It takes place at 7 p.m. on Dec. 13.

Stoughton's Immaculate Conception Church was selected as one of only four parishes in the entire Catholic Archdiocese of Boston that gets to host the 2012 tour.

5. Reminder: Thursday is Food Pantry Day in Stoughton

Stoughton resident Peg Carbone continues her effort to curb hunger in Stoughton, personally picking up donations for the food pantries every Thursday.

Here's a note from Peg: "I pick up non perishable food and also household items every Thursday, anywhere in Stoughton and deliver them to the food pantry. Please tell your friends and neighbors. One item, one bag or several, and I will pick them up every Thursday."
