1. Stoughton Searching for New Human Resources Director and Procurement Officer

The Town of Stoughton has posted job openings on the Massachusetts Municipal Association website for two department head positions - Human Resource Director and Procurement Officer.

The Human Resources position has been vacant since April when . McNamara was the first HR director for the newly created department.

Meanwhile, to take a job in another Boston-area community. Her last day was on August 3.

According to the Mass. Municipal website, openings for both positions were posted July 31.

Qualified applicants for both positions are asked to submit a resume to Interim Town Manager Joseph Feaster by Friday, August 17. Neither job posting is specific about salary range. Both department head positions are advertised as non-union jobs and salary is "commensurate with experience."

2. Stoughton Life Teen Fundraiser at the Chateau

On Thursday, August 9, bring the fundraiser ticket posted in the media gallery of this article and enjoy dinner or order take-out from in Stoughton on Park St. 

When paying your check, give the waitperson your ticket. The ticket will be attached to your check and The Chateau will contribute 20% of the total bill to Stoughton Life Teen!

3. Summer Nutrition Program at the West School

The will be offering a Summer Nutrition Program at the . The program began Monday, July 9 and ends on August 16, 2012.

Lunch will be served free of charge to all school aged children, up to age 18, in the West School Cafeteria, Monday through Thursday from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All food must be consumed on the premises; no food is allowed to be taken home or off the property.

4. Deadline to Apply for Town Boards/Committees or Capital Planning Committee

Stoughton Still Seeking Volunteers for 8 Town Boards/Committees Stoughton Selectmen to Recruit Capital Planning Committee

Applications for appointment to the following Boards and Commissions will be accepted at the Town Manager’s Office, Town Hall, 10 Pearl Street, until 12 noon on Thursday, August 9th:

  • Brockton Area Transit Representative - 1 vacancy, 3-year term
  • Cable TV Advisory Committee - 4 vacancies, 3-year terms
  • Cedar Hill Golf - 1 vacancy, 3-year term
  • Commission on Disabilities - 1 vacancy, 1-year term
  • Conservation Commission -  1 vacancy, 3-year term
  • Council on Aging - 1 vacancy, 2-year term
  • Cultural Council - 15 vacancies, 3-year terms
  • Historical Commission - 2 vacancies, 3-year terms

Positions are voluntary. Applications are available at the Town Manager’s Office or on the Town of Stoughton website under Town Departments/Town Manager/Forms and Documents/Application for Board/Committee.

At its meeting on July 10, 2012, the Stoughton Board of Selectmen voted to establish a citizen’s committee to advise the Town Manager and Board of Selectmen in the development of a long-term capital and financial plan for the Town.

Applications are being sought to appoint five volunteers to serve on the Capital and Financial Planning Advisory Committee.

Members of the Capital Planning Committee will help to create a 3-year financial plan for the town.

Those interested in serving on the committee should send letters of interest to the Board of Selectmen at Stoughton’s Town Hall by Thursday, August 9, 2012, 7 p.m.


5. Thursday is Food Pantry Day in Stoughton

Stoughton resident Peg Carbone continues her effort to curb hunger in Stoughton, personally picking up donations for the food pantries every Thursday.

Here's a note from Peg: "I pick up non perishable food and also household items every Thursday, anywhere in Stoughton and deliver them to the food pantry. Please tell your friends and neighbors. One item, one bag or several, and I will pick them up every Thursday."
