Ways to Give Back This Holiday Season

Several Stoughton businesses and organizations are holding holiday coat drives, food drives or toy drives.

Holiday Gift Drive For Tots, Teens and Seniors

The Giving Tree at the on Canton St. in Stoughton is sponsoring a gift drive to help less fortunate children, teens and senior citizens enjoy the holiday. All gifts will be given to people from Stoughton who “need a brighter light this holiday season.”

Gifts for children and teens can be dropped off at the or and gifts for senior citizens can be dropped off at the or Stoughton Public Library. Gifts for all ages can also be left at the Immaculate Conception Church on Canton St.

All gifts need to be dropped off before Friday, Dec. 16.

Dollar Tree Holiday Toy Drive to Benefit Military Children

Operation Homefront and have joined forces again this holiday season to gather holiday gifts for military children in the Boston area. The toys will be donated by customers of the more than 4,000 Dollar Tree and Deal$ stores nationwide. 

Dollar Tree has 84 stores in the Boston area, including one located in Stoughton at on the Stoughton-Brockton line.

Boston area Dollar Tree stores will collect items November 1 – December 6 and local military support groups will distribute the toys to military families and their children.

Village Pub Toys for Tots Holiday Party

(1272 Washington St.) is hosting its annual Toys for Tots Holiday party Friday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.

There will be a free buffet and raffles.

Those attending are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to be donated to Toys for Tots. Even if you cannot make the party, you can still swing by the restaurant and drop off a toy.

Stoughton’s Hair Cuttery Salon Wants to Help Folks Stay Warm This Winter

Forty-Four (44) Hair Cuttery salons in New England, including the Stoughton salon, located at 417 Washington St., will be partnering with Krausey’s Koats to collect gently used coats, jackets, hats, scarves, and mittens for those in need this holiday season.

The transportation and delivery of the winter gear will be handled in collaboration with the United States Army. All collected items will be delivered to local missions and homeless shelters, and a variety of non-profits serving the needy, such as: St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Salvation Army and Cradles to Crayons.

Collections will end January 1, 2012.

"Food for Friends" at Stop & Shop

Stop & Shop’s 22nd annual Food for Friends program will run in all 398 stores through Dec. 8.

Customers who donate $1, $3, or $5 at their local Stop & Shop will help support hunger relief organizations within their local communities as well as regionally.

Customers who donate $5 to Food for Friends will also receive a $5 coupon booklet from Kraft Foods (while supplies last). Stop & Shop’s goal is to raise more than $2 million this holiday season.

Spirit of Giving Food Drive at Shaw’s

From now through December 18, Shaw’s customers can purchase pre-assembled bags that contain much-needed holiday food items ranging from green beans to tomato sauce for $5, $10 or $15.

Once purchased, the pre-assembled bags will be placed in a designated drop bin and Shaw’s stores will deliver them to a local food partner. With the holidays around the corner, the 2011 Spirit of Giving Food Drive makes it convenient for customers to contribute directly to hunger relief in their community.

Italian Dinner to Benefit St. Anthony’s Free Market Food Pantry

Come and support the St. Anthony’s Free Market Food Pantry on Thursday, Dec. 8 from 3:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Sons of Italy at 560 Washington St.

The dinner, cooked by Mike Sammarco and company, is sponsored by the Stoughton Friends for Seniors.

Dinner costs $7 per person. Senior Citizen tickets are $5. Tickets are sold at the door. Those attending are also asked to bring a canned good to be donated to the food pantry.

Thursday is Food Pantry Day in Stoughton

Stoughton resident continues her effort to in Stoughton, personally picking up donations for the food pantries every Thursday.

Here's a note from Peg: "I pick up non perishable food and also household items , anywhere in Stoughton and deliver them to the food pantry. Please tell your friends and neighbors. One item, one bag or several, and I will pick them up every Thursday."
