Stoughton Selectmen Throw Support to New Restaurant

There will be a new restaurant at the former site of X & O on Washington Street. A & M Restaurant Inc., the owners of Alfredo's in Quincy and Sofia in West Roxbury, are going to be opening up a restaurant there. The vacant spot was also the home of Albert's, a Stoughton institution.

The owners appeared before the Stoughton selectmen Tuesday night and received their support in opening up in Stoughton by a 5-0 vote. Meck Inc., who owned the property before filing for bankruptcy March 20, 2013, which stopped foreclosure proceedings, according the Stoughton selectmen's minutes of April 23, 2013. At that meeting, Meck, Inc. requested 90 more days to be able to sell the property with the liquor license intact.

The property has been identified as an important parcel of land in Stoughton's development in that part of Route 138.

"This is singularly the most important restaurant in Stoughton," said selectman Stephen Anastos. He thanked the group for locating in town.

Selectman Thomas Recupero Jr. said he was familiar with the people involved with the restaurant.

"I have nothing but superlatives for them," he said.

The restaurant is expected to employ 100 people.
