Customers of IKEA in Stoughton will now have a larger shopping experience.
The store this month completed a nearly 60,000 square-foot expansion project to bring its self-serve furniture area's total retail space to 415,575 square feet, IKEA announced last week. Store representatives first announced plans for the expansion in May 2013.
The store also plans to increase the size of its solar array installed on top of the building last year. The 51,516-square-foot addition is expected to be completed by the fall, and will consist of a 312-kW systems and include 1,248 panels, producing more than 380,000 kWh more of electricity each year, according to the announcement.
"IKEA is thrilled with the success of IKEA Stoughton since its opening nearly ten years ago," Store Manager Anton van Dongen said in a statement. "This expansion will help us improve the shopping experience, and more easily meet the needs of customers throughout Northern New England."
