The intersection of Canton Street and School Street in Stoughton has been ranked as the third "most dangerous” intersection in the state and the 14th most dangerous one in New England in a recent study by GoLocal Worcester, an online publication.

The site’s methodology looked at total number of accidents, fatalities, injuries and property-damage-only crashes at each intersection. The Stoughton intersection saw a total of 39 crashes, two fatal crashes, 10 crashes involving injuries and 27 crashes that involved property damage.

Do you agree with the ranking? And what other intersections in Stoughton deserve to be on a “most dangerous” list?

It is a bad intersection. I didn't think it was that bad. I think every town has at least one bad intersection. I used to drop my daughter off to her school and I avoided that intersection. I preferred to go to the 4 way stop in front of the middle school. Stay safe Stoughton, keep an eye out for other vehicles and bad drivers.

I think it would be very helpful to put an arrow at the intersection of Central Street and Rt 139. It is impossible for cars to make a left hand turn at that light. This causes drivers to attempt the turn when the light turns yellow or red, causing many accidents. It would also improve the flow of traffic, as during the morning and evening rush hours the line of cars to turn left on 139 backs up pretty far on Central Street.

Lincoln and Pleasant can be pretty scary!

Dawn, there's no light at that intersection. There's 5 lanes of traffic. Accident after accident there between vehicles AND pedestrians!

I always try to avoid the Canton/School intersection. At high traffic times with a traffic officer, its very tough and certainly a long wait. Of course, I try to avoid Stoughton Center all together since its a nightmare to get through.

@JD - check your map

You got to be kidding!!!! I've been driving through that intersection since 1954 never a problem, I live in Maine now, were after driving somewere I'll tell my wife " I missed "THE" light so when I'm down to Stoughton i never avoid the square it's fun challenging and brings back memories of SHS

@ just Saying. I suggest you do the same. Canton and School intersect by the Church and what used to be Best Pals (just before the train tracks). I know exactly where it is, as I was in an accident there!

There is definately a light at Central and Rt. 139, but there is no arrow, so the left lane can never take the turn. I live right down the street and there are constantly accidents when they try to make the turn on the yellow or red. In their defense, that is the only way to take the turn, as there is a constant flow of traffic coming from the other end of Central. How hard would it be to put an arrow there to give that lane of traffic 15 seconds to turn and alleviate the backup. They've been talking about it for years, but it never gets done. I would like to see the accident ratio at that light.

@JD - Dawn said she thinks there ought to be an arrow at the lights at Central St. & Rt. 139. You mistakenly corrected her, informing her that there is not a light there. There is a light at Central & 139. And yes, I too know exactly where Canton St. & School St. intersect, no map needed.

@ Just Saying & Dawn, The article references SCHOOL ST & CANTON ST. NO mention of Central and 139. There is NO LIGHT in the 3rd MOST DANGEROUS Intersection in the state. The article reads the following: The intersection of Canton Street and School Street in Stoughton has been ranked as the third "most dangerous” intersection in the state and the 14th most dangerous one in New England in a recent study by GoLocal Worcester, an online publication.

Thank you JD, I did read the article, but I was also able to read and comprehend Dawn's comments.
