A letter from South Shore Disaster Animal Rescue Team leader Chris D'Arpino on the success of a recent donation drive for a Hurricane Sandy pet shelter in New Jersey.

Editor's Note: The Stoughton-based South Shore Disaster Animal Rescue Team (SSDART) collected donations for pets impacted by Hurricane Sandy last Saturday, Nov. 17 to be transported to a New Jersey animal shelter. SSDART team leader Chris D'Arpino, a Stoughton resident, writes a letter of thanks to the community for their support of this donation drive.

Thanks to the generosity of so many people our donation collection day was a HUGE success. Because of these amazing donations this Thanksgiving will be filled with good food, clean blankets and yummy treats for the animals in the emergency shelters in New jersey.

The South Shore disaster Animal Rescue Team is sending over 1,000 lbs of supplies to the affected areas. In addition to already having a team deployed, other team members are set to deploy in the coming weeks as well.

Sandy may be a distant memory for us, but fo the people and animals on Long Island, Staten island and in New Jersey the recovery is slow, cold and on-going. Thank you to everyone who donated and know that these donations go directly to the emergency shelters and are put to immediate use.  We will continue to send supplies and volunteers for as long as we can!!

Please check out www.ssdart.org for Sandy Updates!!
