Driver Charged with Killing Pregnant Stoughton Pedestrian

The Sharon driver charged with motor vehicle homicide after her car struck and killed a pregnant Stoughton woman last Sunday night on Lincoln Street in Stoughton, plead not guilty to the charges in Stoughton District Court.

Karen Blau, 46, of Suffolk Road in Sharon, is also accused of having alcohol and drugs in her system at the time of the fatal crash.

The victim, Joanne White, 35, was struck near the intersection of Grove Street around 8:45 p.m. on July 21.

ABOUT TOWN: Birthday Party Creates Mess at Stoughton Park

A birthday party that was held at Halloran Park on July 20, resulted in substantial costs to the town for cleanup.

Stoughton's Recreation Director, John Denison, told About Town that a woman named Tamika Noiles from Bridgewater had a permit to hold a birthday party that night at the park, located at the intersection of Pierce and Leach Streets.

The next morning, the park had three tables, loaded with trash, and there were over 75 candy wrappers and juice boxes all over the park, and  tire tracks on the grass surrounding the field.

Stoughton House of Brews to Bring Coffee, Spirits, Ambience to Downtown

Billed as "your neighborhood coffeehouse and tavern," the Stoughton House of Brews, which is located at 28 Porter Street in the downtown, opened Thursday.

Owners (and Stoughton residents) Leo and Sandra Fay described the Stoughton House of Brews as a Cambridge-style cafe with a "small town flair." It has a "comfy, cozy" atmosphere, like you were "sitting in somebody's living room."

Stoughton's 11A Baseball Team Wins Cal Ripken State Title

Outscoring the opposition 54-11, the Stoughton Youth Baseball 11A all-star team swept its way through the Cal Ripken Baseball Eastern Massachusetts State Championship Tournament in the 11-year-old division.

Stoughton won the title with a 9-3 victory over Arlington National in the championship game held July 21, and now advances to the New England Regional Championship in August.
