The Norfolk County Mosquito Control District will be conducting aerial aerial larval applications via helicopter for two to three days until the end of the month.

The applications began on Monday, April 14 and will continue in Norfolk County through April 30, according to a recent announcement by Denise Lochiatto, Administrative Secretary with the Stoughton Board of Health.

"The applications are not 'sprays' but instead are granular applications of a biological larvicide applied to wetlands only," Lochiatto wrote in the announcement. "As always, the weather in the spring is unpredictable, and for this reason the District cannot pin down these dates with any more accuracy at this time. As the time approaches, the District will narrow down application dates and will notify you via email, fax or phone."

While officials have not announced a specific date for when the applications will be deployed, Stoughton Police said that they would take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at some point between now and April 30, and residents should not be alarmed if they see a helicopter over the area.

This is pathetic. I should not have to learn about this as I'm walking my dog having a helicopter circling us overhead. It was so low and so repetitious I assumed they were looking for someone and didn't learn of the cause until I pulled up this article on the Patch site with my cell. Horrible. Have always been provided time to opt out in past.

B&O, if them stoughton PD posted it on their website a week ago, all the Moore poignant that the Town had this information and failed to report it timely to a news outlet. fYI, the Pd link in the article failed to take me to any web page and the "officially" SP website at stoughtonpolice.org does not provide notice at least from their main page from what I can find so please don't tell me we have to sign up for a rely on twitter or the like from our Pd to get basic news. I can tell you 8 just went to the town website and found a notice under health news submitted by NFMC indicating they were in the process of contacted those who opted out last year yet no one contacted me. Simply put, I thought there was a requirement to post this within the local news in a timely way and clearly this was not done........

Thanks for posting this. I did see it near my house today and near Stop and Shop. So glad I knew what it was or I might have been freaking out.
