Father McDermott to Stay on Until June

Father Joseph McDermott will be remaining at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton as pastor until at least June 3, 2014. He was scheduled to leave the parish Dec. 31, 2013, but Cardinal Sean O'Malley is allowing him to stay in Stoughton, according to a story in the church's weekly bulletin.

"My deep gratitude goes out to all who have most generously written letters, sent e-mails, telephoned and, most importantly, prayed that I remain here as pastor," wrote Father McDermott in the bulletin. "Because of your wonderful generosity I am still here."

On June 3, Immaculate Conception Church and St. James Church will be formed as a collaborative. The churches will remain separate, but will share one pastor. Father McDermott said that he and Father John E. Kelly of St. James have submitted their names to be pastor of the Stoughton collaborative.
