ABOUT TOWN WITH MARK SNYDER: SHS Senior Wins First Round of Open Microphone Competition

Kassandra Melo, a senior at Stoughton High School, won the first round of an open microphone competition held last month at the Lansdowne Pub, right behind Fenway Park, and next to the House of Blues on Lansdowne Street. Finishing first out of 10 total contestants was quite an achievement, as some of Melo's competition included current and recent graduates of the Berklee College of Music.
A high honors student at Stoughton High School, Melo is also a member of several award-winning choirs, including jazz, show and concert choir at the school.
A participant of the Ensemble Program at Stoughton Music Center since April of 2010. Melo advances to the championship round, which is scheduled for this Sunday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m.
She'll be performing with members of her band Outside City Limits, including Stoughton High seniors Dan Goldberg and David Elmowitz, who are also a part of the Ensemble Program at Stoughton Music. Grand prizes include $200 cash, as well as a paid gig opening for a national act at the renowned venue!
The band will also make an appearance on Stoughton Media Access Cable on Wednesday, Dec. 4, followed by a live performance at the annual Stoughton Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 7.  We're quite proud of Kassandra, Dan and David and wish them all luck. We know the band is HOT (Goldberg's dad is Deputy Fire Chief Greg Goldberg.)

UMASS MARCHING BAND FEATURES BLACK KNIGHTS
