ABOUT TOWN: Former Stoughton Resident's Comedy Weddings

WEDDINGS CAN BE FUNNY? Well, former Stoughton resident Jerry Cibley of Foxboro thinks so. He has been appointed a Justice of the Peace for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and says he will be offering non-denominational wedding ceremonies catered to the individual couple.

Justice Jerry, who owned the defunct Odyssey Solutions phone store in Stoughton (where Daddy's Dairy is currently), has become a familiar face in media the past few years, since the tragic death of his son, Jordan, who had attended Stoughton High (and has a scholarship there named after him.)

Cibley was speaking with his son when Jordan dropped his cell phone. In trying to reach for it, he lost control of his car, hit a tree and was killed.  Cibley has gone wherever he can to warn people of the dangers of distracted driving - even landing on the Oprah Winfrey TV Show.

Cibley speaks effectively, with emotion and humor, and I'm sure it will translate well for his new Justice of the Peace gig.

Cibley tells About Town, "I will be offering a unique style of ceremony filled with humor and love. They can be casual or elegant ceremonies, combined with traditional or non-traditional vows."

Jerry adds, he can customize a ceremony for anyone. Jerry, who has a long tenure as an improvisational actor, will be offering a first - a loosely scripted comedy wedding! If you can think of it – Jerry can do it.

"My wife and I have been happily married for eight years. Jeri (yes, her name is Jeri) tells me every day how happy I am.  We have two awesome puppies – Ginger and Princess Jazmine.  Jazmine can also serve as a ring bearer as long as you pay her with cheese," he jokes.

"Jeri helps coordinate the wedding ceremony to insure that everything is in its place for your special day. She can assist you with flowers, decorations, and ideas. Her last wedding was put together in one week’s time.  She is amazing.  So, do not hesitate to ask me about her services.

"I have a wonderful daughter, Brenna, and a beautiful granddaughter, Brooke Jordan. Seems like yesterday that I held Brenna in one hand and today I hold her baby.  Naturally, the little one is the apple of papa and nanny’s eye. I encourage you to include your children in your wedding.

"From the most traditional to the comic absurd, I can help you design the wedding of your dreams," he added. "Secular and family traditions are encouraged in the creation of your vows. I am Jewish and very comfortable including the wedding blessings, breaking of the glass, and blessing of the wine within your ceremony.

"For non-Jews, I encourage you to include your favorite spiritual readings and biblical passages to be read to each other, by me, or a special person attending the wedding. Totally secular weddings are fine as well," he said.

Need a quick elopement or a short notice wedding? Jerry says he can easily accommodate your schedule.

Cibley is now accepting bookings for September and beyond. He can be reached at 617-828-3636 or visit his website www.JusticeJerry.com.
