The Stoughton boys track & field team tallied a whopping 54 points to place 2nd in the Division 3 Eastern Massachusetts State meet on Saturday, May 31st at Pembroke High School.
Senior Lennox Green got the Black Knights off to a
great start with an upset win the long jump. Green, seeded 9th, leapt to a huge
personal best of 21' 6" inches on his 5th
jump to catapult into 1st. Senior Kevin McDonald, seeded 14th, backed his
teammate up with a 6th place finish with a best jump of 20' 2" inches.
Next up, junior Kevin Lucas tossed the shot 47' 11" inches to take 3rd place and six more points.
Junior David Lockhart, seeded 2nd had perhaps the
most exciting finish of the day edging out top seed Marblehead sophomore, Andrew Ernst by .01 seconds to win
the 800 in 1:57.38.
Kevin McDonald followed with a 3rd place in the 110 hurdles in a season-best 15.19 and Senior Malachi Baugh was 6th in the 100 final.
With just the relays left, Stoughton distanced itself from its nearest competitors with the 3rd seeded 4 x 100 meter relay team (Kevin McDonald-Sr, Lennox Green-Sr, Xzavian Marrero-So, Malachi Baugh-Sr) capturing 1st place in a season-best 44.69 seconds and the 8th seeded 4 x 400 meter relay team of Jordan Taylor-So, Jason Marshall-Jr, Lennox Green-Sr and David Lockhart-Jr taking 3rd for good measure.
Each competitor advanced to next Saturday's All-State Meet at Bridgewater State University.
On the girls side, the 31st seeded 4 x 100 meter team of Shanel Ford-So, Donyea Holloway-Sr, Lisa Bontemps-Sr and Maya Barrant-Sr finished 21st - 54.68, the 15th seeded 4 x 400 relay team of Nashadee Guerrier-So, Rachel Berkowsky-Sr, Sarah Quatrucci-So, and Amy Kelly-Jr finished 18th - 4:29.18 and Senior Ada Monyeki finished 23rd in the shot with a distance of 31"
