MANCHESTER, Conn. – July 10, 2014 – Bob’s Discount Furniture today announced that it is donating $50,000 to Autism Speaks, the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization program. Half of this donation was made possible by customer contributions to collection jars located in Bob’s cafes found in every store, which offer free refreshments (including gourmet coffee, ice cream, cookies and candy) to all Bob’s shoppers. Matching this amount, Bob’s was able to provide an additional $25,000 to the organization, marking the company’s second quarterly donation of 2014.

“It’s a pleasure to be able to support Autism Speaks with this year’s second-quarter cafe donations,” says Cathy Poulin, public relations director, Bob’s Discount Furniture. “With autism now estimated to affect one in 68 U.S. children, and thousands of autistic individuals entering adulthood each year, more needs to be done to address this increasingly prevalent problem.”

Bob’s officials will present the donation check to Autism Speaks representatives at 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, at Bob’s Stoughton, Mass. store.

“We’re grateful to Bob’s Discount Furniture for its commitment to the autism community and for this contribution to Autism Speaks’ science and advocacy initiatives,” says Alec Elbert, chief strategy and development officer, Autism Speaks. “Thanks to partnerships such as this one, we are able to help find answers for the millions of individuals and families struggling with autism.”
