13 YEAR-OLD DESIGNS MASCOT FOR ORTHODONTIC PRACTICE Introducing ‘ARCHie’ -- The Shark with the Beautiful Smile

ISSUED FALL 2013)  -- The 9-office ARCH Orthodontics practice has a new mascot: “ARCHie.”

 The toothy shark mascot was the winning entry in ARCH’s ‘Design Our Mascot’ contest. Created by 13 year-old Samantha ‘Sam’ Rando of Holbrook, the shark character is being named ‘ARCHie’ and will be featured on hats and t-shirts, on the ARCH website (www.archorthodontics.com) and in publicity. Sam won the Grand Prize, an iPad Mini.  In all, there were some 45 entries.

 Sam, whose Orthodontist is Dr. Janeen Hughes at ARCH’s Randolph office, says she came up with the idea “because when people think of sharks, they think of big teeth! And I didn’t want to draw a tooth with a face. I wanted to involve an animal.”

 Dr. Hughes, along with ARCH’s Dr. Robert Chavez and Dr. Andrew Chase, commended Sam on her creativity, and thanked all who entered for their imaginative creations.

Sam, an 8th grade at Thayer Academy Middle School in Braintree, enjoys drawing, reading, music and video games. At Thayer she plays field hockey, softball and wrestles. Her creative side is shown by her favorite movie, How to Train Your Drago, one of her favorite TV shows,  The Adventures of Merlin, and her favorite books, the Golden Compass series.  Sam’s sister, Eva, is in the 6th grade.  

While her favorite school subject is Spanish, when she grows up she’d like to either play in a band, be a computer programmer or a marine biologist. She is part of the competitive dance team at Paula Coffey Dance Center in East Bridgewater, focusing on tap and jazz.

Mascot contest runners-up are Sarah Witherbee of Brockton; Stephen Chancey of Stoughton; Victoria Pinarreta of Bridgewater; Chase Reardon of Randolph; and Frankie Belisimo of Brockton.

 ARCH Orthodontics, the Official orthodontist of Miss Massachusetts, is currently sponsoring a video contest for patients and expects lots of excitement for its annual Halloween costume contest.
