News from the Stoughton Department of Public Works

The Stoughton Department of Public Works Department will be holding fall leave disposal for five Saturdays in November, Nov. 2, Nov. 9, Nov. 16, Nov. 23 and Nov. 30 at Gay Street from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can also bring chippable brush. Leaves can also be taken to to 100 Page St., Sundays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. year round. There will be a Fire Flow Testing by Courtyard Marriott at 2 Technology Center Drive, Thursday, Oct. 24, at 9 a.m. This will cause discolored water to a varying degrees in all sections of town.

The Stoughton Public Library will be hosting the following programs:

Thursday, Oct. 24, from 6:30-8:30 p.m: “Things That Go Bump in the Night:The History and Impact of the Horror Film,” with Frank Mandosa. Part two of four-part film history series.

Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon.  ‘Getting Started In Massachusetts Genealogy"  Stoughton historian David Allen Lambert will talk about researching your ancestors using records from towns, cemeteries and the military. Lambert is the chief genealogist for the New England Historical Genealogy Society and has written several books on Stoughton history, genealogy and cemeteries. 

Stoughton Police Chief to be Roasted
Stoughton Police Chief Paul Shastany will be roasted Friday, Nov. 8, from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Portuguese Nation Club. A portion of the proceeds will go to the chief's selected charity, "Cops for Kids with Cancer." Tickets are $25 and available at Windsor Tire , Copy Inks and at www.stoughtonMA.com. The roster lineup includes attorney Fran Crimmins, the former town manager, Bob Devine, the Deputy Police Chief, John Batchelder, the Stoughton DPW Superintendent, selectman Steve Anastos, former selectman John Anderson and Ken Shastany, the chief's brother. Mark Snyder will be the host.

Household Hazardous Waste Day Saturday
Stoughton's Household Hazardous Waste and Used Tire Collection Day will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 8 a.m. to noon at the O'Donnell Middle School parking lot. The rain date is Nov. 2.
