Monday Essentials: No Curbside Trash Collection, Recycling

There will be no curbside trash collection and recycling in observance of Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 14.  Trash collection for Columbus Day will be scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 15, in addition to the regular Tuesday collection.  This is standard procedure for any holiday.

For five Saturdays only, beginning Saturday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. only, Stoughton residents may bring leaves and chipable brush only to Gay Street storage yard (behind Meads Meadow).  

Recyclables must be separated as follows: (1) Commingled containers (glass, plastic, aluminum cans, and aluminum foil) and (2) curbside newsprint (newspapers, cardboard boxes, brown paper bags, magazines, phone books, inserts).

They are now able to pick up tubeless TV’s and computer monitors with curbside trash but older TV’s and computer monitors with tubes (CRTs) cannot be picked up curbside and must be brought to the transfer station.  Large household appliances (metal items) must be called into the public works for appointment for pickup.

The transfer station is open every Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All rubbish and recyclables must be curbside by 7 a.m. on your collection day.

Please place recyclables apart from regular rubbish (stickers facing the street).

No barrel over 30-gallon size will be emptied. Large household appliances (metal items) must be called into the public works for appointment for pickup. (781-344-2112 or 781-341-1300 X9312)

Ceremony to be Held for Storywalk Trail Monday
The Storywalk Trail is open and the ribbon cutting ceremony will be Monday, Oct. 14, at 11:30 a.m. The trail, which features a children's book along the walkway, is located directly behind the Bradley M. Lessa Memorial Playground, 1258 West St. The ceremony will happen after the Bradley M. Lessa Memorial Playground Memorial Fundraiser Walk at 10 a.m. The donation is $15 and includes a BBQ. Checks should be made payable to The Lessa Family Benefit, c/o The Lessa Family, 984 West St., Stoughton, 02072. A 100-percent of the proceeds go to purchase playground equipment.

Tour Stoughton High Tuesday
Stoughton school administrators will be conducting tours of the high school Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. They are trying to build a new high school and want to let people know the conditions of the present schools.

Mark Down Taste of Stoughton & Business Expo
Peg Carbone and The Stoughton Chamber of Commerce are inviting you to The Taste of Stoughton & Business Expo and to help them "Stuff a Truck" for Stoughton Food Pantries, Saturday, Oct. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Stoughton High cafeteria. The truck is owned by Terry Schneider, the executive director of The Stoughton Chamber of Commerce, that is bringing back the Taste of Stoughton & Business Expo.
