1. Gettysburg Address Project As a special Presidents’ Day video project, Stoughton Patch had 16 students from across the Stoughton Public Schools read what is one of, if not the most famous speeches delivered by an American President—The Gettysburg Address. Students ranging in age from first grade to 12th grade, and representing each of Stoughton’s five elementary schools, middle school and high school, took turns reading the address. In the Schools * Pre-Prom Event at Stoughton High Brings Fashion, Responsibility Together OASIS (Organizing Against Substances in Stoughton) sponsored a pre-prom event at Stoughton High School on February 13. The goal of the event, held for the second consecutive year, is to reduce youth substance abuse on Prom night. And have some fun—there was also a fashion show, with a group of students modeling the latest prom fashions. 1. Immaculate’s Father Joe Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Ordination   Rev. Fr. Joseph McDermott recently celebrated the 50th Anniversary of his Ordination as a Roman Catholic Priest during a February 5 mass at Immaculate Conception. Father McDermott, more affectionately referred to as “Father Joe,” has been serving Stoughton’s Immaculate Conception Church since 1992. 1. Procurement Divides Town and School Department in Stoughton A difference in opinion in procurement (purchasing) laws and procedures may result in the Town of Stoughton seeking an injunction against its own school system if the two sides cannot reach a resolution. Acting chief procurement officer Lindsay Pope issued a memo saying the schools have not complied with the town’s procurement policies and are in violation of state law. 1. Crimmins Resigns as Stoughton’s Town Manager Town Manager Francis T. Crimmins, Jr. informed selectmen of his resignation, effective March 31, 2012. His resignation letter can be seen here. Crimmins was hired by the Board of Selectmen in a 3-2 vote in January of 2010, and according to his resignation letter, Crimmins entered into an employment agreement with the town on February 9, 2010. 2.
