This is the final of three galleries, which included pictures of all of Stoughton’s Hockomock Summer League teams. Included in this gallery are pictures from Stoughton’s 13A, 14A, 15A, 14/15 B and 16-18 year-old all-star squads. The 13, 14 and 15-year-old teams participated in the Senior Division, while the 16-18 year-old team competed in the Diamond Division. The A team, competing in the 14U West Division, finished the regular season with a 6-3-1 record, while the B team, competing in the 14U East Division, finished the regular season with a 1-9 record. In a back and forth winner-take-all third game, team Yellow Jelly Belly topped the Lime Green Ninjas 14-13 to win the STOYAC Senior Division Softball Championship. Team Yellow Jelly Belly (Team 5) capped a successful regular season by holding off the Lime Green Ninjas and winning the best-of-three championship series two games to one. With the win, team Yellow Jelly Belly got to ride on a float in the annual July 4th Parade. The senior division is for middle school aged girls. Run a promotion for $2 ice cream sundaes on a hot summer day and what do you get? Droves of people lining up to take part in the deal. Hundreds of people visited Crescent Ridge on Bay Road in Sharon on Thursday, July 7, as the business located right on the Stoughton/Sharon line offered $2 sundaes to celebrate National Ice Cream Day. Sundaes normally go for $6.50 at the dairy bar. There was no limit to the number of sundaes you could purchase. The Norfolk County Mini Whinnies 4-H club was also there, offering pony rides and giving people the chance to see goats up close. Plenty of people from …
Take a look at pictures from this year's pre-July 4th carnival and concert, which took place Sunday, July 3 at the middle school and high school, leading up to the fireworks show. The carnival, at the middle school parking lot, featured many games and concessions, while Ronnie Lewis and the Expedition kept the crowd entertained performing some classic hits on the Stoughton High football field. Take a look at photos (more than 70) from the Children’s Field Day on Sunday. The event was part of the Stoughton Community Events Committee’s Fourth of July weekend schedule of activities. Held from about 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Stoughton High School athletics fields, there were numerous games, prizes, an inflatable moonwalk, temporary tattoo stations, balloon magic, a faux fire engine which drove children around the high school track and a K-9 Show from Brian Holmes and John Lydstone of the Stoughton Police Department. Hundreds of spectators of all ages gathered on the Stoughton High athletic fields and around the SHS track to watch the impressive fireworks display sponsored by IKEA of Stoughton. The Hansen Elementary School hosted a special picnic lunch for its kindergarten students and their families last Wednesday, June 22. The event, originally planned to take place at the foot of Chemung Hill, was forced inside due to the unfavorable weather conditions. But teachers Mrs. Fugate and Mrs. Manchester and the kindergarteners weren’t going to let the weather rain on their parade (literally). After gobbling up their special lunches, either from picnic baskets or from the cafeteria, they let loose. They transitioned the “gymnasium picnic” into a dance party as they sang along to some…
The fifth grade classes from all five elementary schools in Stoughton got together for some friendly competition at the all-district field day last Monday, held at the West School Athletic Fields. With bragging rights on the line, fifth graders from the Dawe, Gibbons, Hansen, South and West spent the morning and early afternoon having tug-of-wars, playing kickball and having games of drip-drip-drop (like duck-duck-goose, but with water), in addition to many other activities, before ending the day with a picnic lunch on the fields. The Mets lost the first game of the championship series, but came back to win the final two to capture the Stoughton Youth Baseball AA title for players aged 8-9. The Marlins edged the Mets in the first game, 6-5, but the Mets, easily the highest scoring team in AA this year (nearly eight runs scored per game during the regular season), earned a 9-2 victory in game 2, to force a third and decisive game. In the final game last Sunday, the Mets pitched a shutout, winning 6-0. The Mets were 9-6 during the regular season, just behind the Marlins (who were tied with the Pirates) at 8-5-1. The …
The Major League Baseball Cubs are still starving for a championship (without a title since 1908), but for the Stoughton Youth Baseball National League Cubs, anything is possible. The Cubs went 6-0 in the playoffs, sweeping all three series, to clinch the Stoughton Youth Baseball National League Championship for players aged 10-12. The Cubs defeated the Nationals 6-5 in the second game of the championship series last Thursday. The Cubs took the first game by a score of 14-6. The Nationals trailed 6-3 heading into the sixth and final inning of game 2, but didn’t go quietly, scoring two runs …
The Red Sox edged the Pirates 3-2 in the third and decisive game of the Stoughton Youth Baseball American League Championship last Friday night to take home the AL crown for players aged 10-12. With the series tied one game apiece, the Pirates had runners on first and third with two outs in the top of the sixth, and almost pushed the final game into extra innings, but the Red Sox, who had the best regular season record in the AL this season, held on for the win. The Red Sox won 13-4 in game 1, but the Pirates came back to earn a 5-3 win in the second game of the series to force a final game …

Eighth graders at the O’Donnell Middle School went on their annual trip to Washington, DC from June 10-13, touring the Nation’s Capital, with stops at various memorials like the Jefferson, Lincoln, Washington and WWII and Vietnam; the Capitol Building, the National Mall; Arlington National Cemetery; Mount Vernon (George Washington’s home); and the National Air and Space Museum. The United States, Canada, Brazil, Switzerland, Great Britain, Israel, Jamaica, Greece, Cyprus, Japan, Madagascar and Cameroon…and those were just some of the countries represented at the West School Field Day last Friday, June 10. West School students spent the day decked out in their adopted country’s colors and competed in a number of activities in this Olympic style athletic event. Students kindergarten through second grade competed in the morning, while the older students had their turn in the afternoon.
