Daddy's Dairy on Washington St. is the winner of this week's "Best Of" poll.
After a week of voting, Stoughton Patch readers have selected Daddy's Dairy as the best place to go for ice cream or frozen yogurt in the Stoughton area. Daddy's Dairy, located at 354 Washington St., finished in first with 51 percent of the 401 votes cast. Daddy's recently celebrated the second anniversary of its Stoughton location. Known for their extensive soft serve offerings - well over 100 different flavors - Daddy's also has dozens of flavors of hard ice cream, sundaes, ice cream cakes, chocolate dipped bananas and chocolate lollipops. Daddy's is also the preferred ice cream shop of Adam Sandler when he films movies in Stoughton. After spending weeks of designing every phase of a mock business, four groups of marketing students at Stoughton High will be competing at the 2012 Future Entrepreneurs Series: Youth Business Plan Competition on May 15.
In the course of a semester long, five to six week project, Stoughton High students built mock businesses from the bottom up, coming up with a product, a company name, designing a logo, and figuring out costs for financing - be it start-up costs or funding for marketing. After spending weeks developing comprehensive 50-60 page business plans in their Marketing II class at SHS, four groups of students (12 in total) received qualifying scores to take part in the second round of the 2012 Future Entrepreneurs Series: Youth Business Plan Competition through the Brockton Area Workforce Investment Board. Each group will be delivering an oral presentation on their plan to business leaders and judges from the local area on May 15. From there, the …

Cedar Hill Golf Course, a town-owned club, was the top choice in this week's poll, which asked readers to select their favorite outdoor destination in Stoughton. This poll continued a “Best Of” series that allows readers to vote for their favorite businesses and places in Stoughton. Cedar Hill, located on Park St., finished in first with 40 percent of the vote. Ames Pond came in second with 20 percent of the vote. Morrissey launched a new way for Norfolk County businesses to deal with bad checks this week. “The existing ways of dealing with bounced checks has left a lot of merchants, tradesmen and small businesses frustrated and still out their money,” District Attorney Morrissey said. “This kind of crime is an indirect theft from the honest customers who have to pay higher prices to cover the loss. Seven Stoughton High Students attended DECA's 2012 International Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City.
The Stoughton High DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) chapter took seven students to the 2012 International Career Development Conference (ICDC). This year's conference was held from April 27-May 2 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Seniors Nick Aliquo and Valerie Szeto competed in the hospitality and tourism team decision making competition. Both Aliquo and Szeto also served as Massachusetts DECA State Officers this year, giving Stoughton High two of eight state representatives. Senior Cassandra Luce, a third place finisher at the state competition, competed in the Marketing Management Series. After a week of voting, Patch readers have selected Maxie’s as the best place to celebrate Mother’s Day in Stoughton. Serving Mother’s Day breakfast and brunch at Maxie’s is a tradition that is 20 years strong, owner Steve Robbins said. Of the 17 displaced in the May 1 fire on Park St., five are students in the Stoughton Public Schools (SHS, OMS and Dawe). Donations are being collected at Stoughton High and at the O'Donnell Middle School, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rizzi said.
An early morning fire on May 1 at a multi-family home on Park Street in Stoughton displaced 17 people, including an infant, Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff said. While five families were displaced, there were no reports of injuries to civilians or to the crews that responded, according to SFD Captain Doug Campbell. Campbell said all residents self-evacuated. The Red Cross is assisting these residents, he said. Kat Powers of the Red Cross said that four of the 17 victims are children under the age of 12. Dr. Marguerite Rizzi, Superintendent of the Stoughton Public Schools, said five of the victims are students in the Stoughton Public Schools.
