Which Stoughton Intersections Pose Congestion, Safety Concerns? [POLL]
Stoughton Patch is interested in hearing what intersections throughout the WHOLE town you feel are “congestion concerns” or “safety concerns.”
The Old Colony Planning Council is conducting a study of Route 138, from Stoughton Square north to the Canton town line, to relieve traffic bottlenecks and to develop alternative solutions to enhance traffic flow and improve pedestrian and bicycle safety.
On Jan. 25, the Old Colony Planning Council named five intersections along the Route 138 corridor in Stoughton as “congestion concerns” and “safety concerns”: Stoughton Square; Washington St. and School St.; Washington St. and Lincoln St.; Washington St. and Central St.; and Washington St. and York St.
We asked readers which of those five intersections were the most congested or dangerous. Almost half thought Stoughton Square was the most congested, followed by Washington St. and Central St. The biggest safety concerns were Washington St. and York St. and Washington St. and Central St.
Now, Stoughton Patch is interested in hearing what intersections throughout the WHOLE town you feel are “congestion concerns” or “safety concerns.” Some of these intersections have traffic lights, while others do not.

Canton and School streets should certainly be an option for safety. It's seen its fair share of accidents over the years.

Central and Island St. Tired of driving my kids to the high school and have to wonder if the person is going to run the stop sign even when they are making a left out of Island St.

I agree with both Justin & Vicki. Both the School & Island streets' intersections on Central Street are dangerous. Signalization should be installed at Central & School, especially with the high school & middle school so close by, but signals at Central & Island may be problematic due to the hill there; it would be downright treacherous stopping on that hill in icy conditions.

Washington/School I use to take my daughter home from gymnastics each week and I definitely agree that is one of the most congested. There are always lines of cars from both directions. I drive Washington/York daily and though very congested, not as priority as School/Washington or Island/Central.

Lincoln and Pleasant (at Jimmy's ) should definitely be a 4 way stop. Very dangerous. Also, central and pearl heading south towards the high school should be made into 2 lanes. One for lefts only, and one for straight and or right.

Central and pleasant I think the lights should have the right arrow first do that nobody tries to get through the light before that person trying to turn right. Once it's green for a time then it should go to red. Then the green for the cars going straight. There have been so many accidents on that corner with cars going into yards and homes. I really hope this is a thought because it's badly needed there.

I can't believe that Washington St/ Brock and Kinsley St aren't on the list. There are constantly serious car accident here. More so that Washington/Plain St.

I did not vote because to me all of the suggestions deserve to have some attention paid to them. Since Stoughton instituted the "no left turn" rule at so many places in Stoughton Square many years ago (with minimal signage to offer alternatives - try explaining to someone coming in to Stoughton on Rte 139 how to get to somewhere on Park St) the traffic on many of the smaller roads/intersections near the square has been a nightmare. I would add Park/Sumner (try getting out of there when CCD classes are letting out). The intersection of Pleasant/Turnpike is dangerous if heading towards Stoughton (you don't see the light (or cars stopped because it is red)until after you come around the corner-and the fix they made is gone). I would love to see an article explaining the process of how to (and who to-some of these intersections must be under state jurisdiction) get these concerns addressed.
