Visions For Vacancies: Old Family Dollar Location

What would you like to see done with the old Family Dollar location at 605 Washington St. in Stoughton?

Drive around Stoughton and you'll notice a number of empty storefronts and buildings.

We're continuing a new series titled "Visions for Vacancies." We'll showcase an empty storefront and ask you what should take up the space.

Last week we asked what you would like to see done with the former state theater/Stoughton Cinema Pub in the downtown.

This week, we turn our attention to the old Family Dollar store location at 605 Washington St. (adjacent to the STOYAC Community Football Field and behind the Citizens Bank Plaza).

Family Dollar didn't leave town - instead they expanded when the store moved to a larger location nearby at 525 Washington St. in the space formerly occupied by the Royal Buffet Chinese Restaurant and Kidsports.

But what would you like seen done with its former storefront left vacant as a result of the February 2012 move?

Keep it as retail space? Open another bargain/discount store? Turn it into a restaurant, diner or coffee shop? Use it as office space?

Let us know your specific ideas in the comments section. Be creative!

We need more pizza places!! Maybe not. What about a bakery? I know only about the Portuguese bakery by the train station, but we don't need one like White's in Easton or Ivy's in Canton. But they need to make Champagne cookies. And cookies with M+M's on them. And those gingerbread men with the icing so you can bite off the heads. Now I am hungry.

What the heck, Planned Parenthood office. If women will be able to get free contraception from Obamacare, they need a place to go to. Just remember, "Free isn't free, some one will pay". Guess who? Dems have already figured that one out.

Daddy's Dairy?? Would have more parking than where they are now. That is a nightmare to get in and out of.

How about a decent breakfast restaurant. Zachs is dirty and I would be afraid to enter any of the other hole in the walls

I agree about Zachs. However the Beantown Diner is in that same plaza as the old family dollar and it is very clean and really good.

If people supported our local businesses we wouldn't have so many vacant stores. Support your town by doing business locally. These buinesses are the places that graciously donate to your childrens sports, your childrens schools, fundraisers etc. Give back by supporting them.
