Toddler Struck, Killed Near Hansen School in Stoughton

A Stoughton toddler has died after being struck by a box truck in front of the Hansen Elementary School on Central St. in Stoughton on Friday, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney's office. 

The accident took place at about 2:45 p.m. on September 14.

, was transported from the scene but did not survive her injuries, according to the DA's office. She was pronounced dead at the Good Samaritan Medical Center.

"The driver of the truck stopped at the scene and is being interviewed, as are other eye witnesses to the event," according to a press release from the DA's office. "Initial indications are that the collision did not take place in the vicinity of a crosswalk."

The Stoughton Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and the Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit of Norfolk District Attorney’s Office were on-scene investigating, acoord the DA's office.

The driver of the truck was reportedly driving an Angelo's Plumbing, Heating & Cooling truck, which was on the scene as State Police and Stoughton Police investigated.

Brandon Tantillio was inside Stelio's Pizza about 30 yards away from the accident when he heard what going outside. He grabbed bottles of water and raced to the scene, he said.

Tantillio said he saw he saw a little girl covered in blood.

"The mother was freaking out, asking what she should do," said Tantillio. "The driver was panicking and in shock."

He continued, "I'm sad and I'm mad. I'd rather it happened to me than a little girl."

Rosaline Campos, who also works at Stelio's, which is approximately across the street from where the accident took place, said she saw the little girl go into traffic as her mother was pushing a stroller towards school. One car had reportedly stopped to let them cross the busy street.

"The little girl let go of the stroller and just ran into the truck," she said. "It's sad. I wouldn't want to be in her mom's shoes."

The accident closed a portion of Central St. near the elementary school, the stretch between Island Street and just after Knollsbrook as police investigated. This created large traffic backups in the area.

Central Street has since been reopened to traffic.
