It doesn't really matter too much where these are located, because the patients that need them are located all over the place. They're not going to be smoking it on a bench in front of the store. The concern would be more on those patients being relieved of their marijuana as they leave the building.
How do other states' communities deal with this? I'm sure they have security cameras and other things, but what about a security detail on site? Do police make frequent, irregular drive-bys? For the sake of security and monitoring, there probably shouldn't be too many. But you can't really tell where's the best place, simply because the people who will need or want this treatment is going to vary from year to year and community by community.

If the substance is truly medicinal, then why isn't it just sold through pharmacies? Why do we need a special dispensary? Is smoking the only way one can get the chemical into their system?

So what your saying, Paul, is that this marijuana we are planning to sell is recreational and not medicinal. And it's only taxable, if it's recreational. Methinks I've been taken.

Sure. The concern is that there'll be more weed around, or that it will suddenly be more available, but the fact it, it could hardly be more available here in Stoughton and across the Commonwealth than it is. You can't keep it away from younger people any more than you can the suprisingly large numbers of venerable and respectable elders here in town who use it--not via prohibition, anyway.

We're well on our way towards wholesale legalization. Pretending that by refusing to allow dispensaries we are in any way stemming the tide of use of simply laughable, and in another decade, we'll all be looking back wondering what the fuss was about. We allow liquor licenses--and reading the police log, we see regular accounts of fights being broken up in or around bars--something you WON'T see around dispensaries, guaranteed (quite the opposite). Now that the people have spoken, dispensaries are legitimate businesses--providing good jobs and more tax revenues for the towns in which they are established.

They'll be subject to intense regulation and scrutiny--no one running a dispensary is going to take a chance on illicit dealing--they'll be making good money, and will not risk being shut down (and a possible stint in prison).

Will these "MARIJUANA DISPENSARIES" accept E.B.T. cards? Will they deliver if an order is called in from an OBAMA PHONE?

I think people need to ask other questions such as; will this have any financial impact on the town either negative or positive. Will this increase traffic with only 35 spread across 350+ towns. Will these dispenceries attract any crime/fraud. And will it call for additional police patrols calling for higher taxes.

These same HURTING PEOPLE should have SEPARATE TRANSPORTION too, so as NOT to endanger those on roads (especially busy highways where patience lacks unfortunately), The separate Transportation could be needed as I have heard that many are in too much pain. Good Luck with this new venture is all I would say. Blessings to all. P.S. Oh, and my opinion is pharmacy's should have special packaging for patients, since this is pain related! Taxes come from EVERY WHERE and is also needed.

My mother had cancer and the cost of the medicine to help with the Nausea from Chemo was $90.00. Even if pot was available, I don't think she would have tried it. However, Viagra and birth control were free!

I'm glad Marijuana will now be available to those who need it for medicinal purposes. Personally, I think it should be legalized for everyone, regulated, taxed and carry the same penalties as driving under the influence of alcohol. I'm not sure I understand what these "dispensaries" are. Is Marijuana the only drug they would dispense? Or, would it be dispensed by Liquor stores? You have a picture of a liquor store at the top of this page so I don't know if that was meant to mean that you could buy pot at liquor stores. That doesn't make any sense to me. I had wrongly assumed that it would be dispensed by pharmacies like any other drug and that it would not be taxed because it would be "medicine". Also, when there are auto accidents due to "being under the influence" it's usually alcohol not marijuana that's involved. I don't have the stats but I'd bet that alcohol kills more people than marijuana.

What a breathe of fresh air that medicinal marijuana is legalized in MA. Hopefully our trustworthy physicians will prescribe this hollistic method instead of further poisoning our residents with opiates and turning them into heroin junkies. I don't know about you, but I'd love for my town to no longer be refered to as "Needlewood"; and I'd sure as hell love for doctors to stop giving out chemical painkillers to everyone and their mother for ailments as simple as a sunburn (true story because I've seen it!).
Also, let's jump to the future when marijuana will be legal for medicinal use: it would be taxed, regulated (less THC), and the money would not be going to drug cartels (although, I suspect it goes to some botonist in Canada). It would be less of a "gateway drug" (or so they say) because a customer would not have a nasty drug dealer trying to push harmful drugs on them.

But people would still illegally grow it to a high THC level at home? Treat them like Moonshiners. What if people are driving under the influence and we can't tell if they're stoned? Slap a label on the container stating to not operate heavy machinery after taking this medicine. Is that not on the container of the harmful drugs your doctor sends you home with?

Yes, legalizing and taxing marijuana would help the economy monumentally, because people are not going to stop partaking in the activity of smoking/ eating/ inhaling vapors of marijuana. For now, let the sick choose their drug.
