Stoughton Schools WILL be OPEN Thursday 1/13
After a snow day on Wednesday, schools will be open tomorrow.
Kids, do your homework. Stoughton Public Schools will be open Thursday, January 13, according to Superintendent of Public Schools Dr. Marguerite Rizzi.
Students in grades K-12 will return to school a day after the town received upwards of 18 inches of snow. Students were off from school on Wednesday.
Dr. Rizzi informed About Town Columnist Mark Snyder about the decision to open schools for Thursday.
As of 8 p.m. Avon, Brockton, Mansfield, Milton, Randolph and Sharon have canceled school for Thursday. (Update: As of 9 p.m., Easton schools are closed tomorrow and Canton schools are opening two hours late with no A.M. or P.M. kindergarten.)
Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School in Easton is closed tomorrow as well.

if all of the surrounding towns have no school. why would stoughton

I think it is premature to make a decision to open the schools. It is going to be below freezing all night, the sidewalks and roads are still a mess.

i think it is absolutly absurd that stoughton has school. Many students walk to school, the side walks are filled with snow and ice which is dangerous.ALso students drive to school, some just recived their license and do not know how to drive in this kind of condition. I am very un happy with this. This choice will be a regret.

This rediculous, almost all of our surrounding towns are closing school and we are not? Why? Rizzi is out of her mind...... Has she even seen the side walks, the roads outside my house are still covered in snow...... how is it safe for bus's to travel in this weather?

I don't think consideration is made of the children who must walk to school. Not everyone can carpool. There are no sidewalks for them to walk on and the mounds of snow are still in place many places from the last storm. I looked outside and the rodes are still a mess, flurries are still coming down..it will take a miracle to get things in the shape they should be to have school tomorrow. I think it's a bad decision.

In my opinion this is a horrible call. The snow hasn't even stopped, the roads are not cleared, and the sidewalk situation is especially dangerous because they are not cleared at all for all the kids that have to walk to school. Stoughton public schools should be CLOSED tomorrow, Thursday the 13th.

This is the worst decision ever. I cannot believe the students will have to go into school tomorrow. There are towns that are within 10 miles from us and they all got cancelled. You want to know why? Its because those towns understand safety and actually care for the student's well-being. The sidewalks are not shoveled at all and many children will not be able to get to school safe and sound. I see many kids walking to school each day and tomorrow I probably won't see any because they are smart and care about their safety. And in conditions like this, the bus stops are never even shoveled out for the students. Last Monday, while i was driving to work I was on Route 138. I saw students walking on the side of the street just to find a safe place to stand to wait for the bus. That is a busy street and it would break my heart to see a student get hurt due to Rizzi's awful decision. Also last year, a young girl broke her tailbone walking into the school from tripping on black ice in front of the building. Obviously school shouldn't have been open that day considering a student was injured on school grounds. Rizzi's decisions are completely unprofessional and she should take in more consideration for the children. I think the smartest decision this town could make about its education is getting a new superintendent. If shes keeps making decisions like this, something terribly horrible is most likely to happen to a student. Have fun sleeping with that guilt Rizzi. Good luck!

My child is due to walking tomorrow morning on the slippery sidewalk due to your very poor chose to have school, this is uncalled for and you should cancel it, it's still snowing and the roads and ice are going to be HORRIBLE tomorrow morning, would you want to explain to all the cars being crashed and are children being hurt?!

People are careless drivers in stoughton. The roads are still slippery and not all the sidewalks are cleared, so take a look outside. Im pretty sure no one wants to get up at 6 am after shoveling 18 inches of snow. theres gonna be so much traffic and people are gonna get stuck on Adams street like they do everytime it snows. Do us all a favor and cancel school
Lee

I think this decision is insane on my street alone the sidewalks are not clear my children are walkers and how are they suppose to get to school when they are walkers i leave for work before they go to school how can one person come up with a decision like this did Dr. Rizzi travel around Stougton to check out all streets to see if the sidewalks are cleared i hardly doubt that. I think Dr. Rizzi needs to rethink this decision in the safety of the walkers.

Couple years ago, a girl fell and slipped while walking to school, right around the corner from the school. Rumor has it, that her family ended up suing either the school or town because it was unsafe due to the snow and icy conditions. Stoughton should have learned its lesson then.

The notices about snow days that come home from the schools says its up to the parent to decide what is best for their child. I think the schools will be open so that they don't have to extend the school year in June, but they don't actually expect the children to attend.

Worst decision. Iv slipped numerous times even walking into the cafeteria because the floors are soaking wet because of the snow and ice tracked in from the students. ANOTHER reason, if someone fell and actually injured themselves, that would be the schools fault.

I would just like to say, this is not fair to students. This is because a lot of kids walk to school and they could get injured. Stoughton public schools need to be close for SAFETY reasons. She will regret making this decision when people get hurt. Last year there was a school where the superintendent made the children go to school and regretted making that decision so it was an excused absense for people who did not go. I would be careful if i was her with her decisions before someone gets seriously hurt from tryin to walk or drive to school

honestly.rizzi is probably sleeping ignoring all of this right now.i have to drive to school and my car isnt so great in the snow..its a 97 and just an ok care like the rest of high school students..its going to be a struggle to get to school and i also have to park at the middle school which means i have to trdge though mounds of snow across the field to get to the school. i almost got in an accident leaving school that one day it was really bad a few weeks ago and so did many others. its rediculous to have school tomorrow and many people are trying to prove that to rizzi but she is obviously too stubborn to realize it. but she will be proven wrong tomorrow when nobody attends and many are late.

Even with the road and sidewalks dangerous, many of the children who walk to school use crooswalks, which i was on the street today walking and I was slipping. Anyway, the children using the sidewalks could slip and hurt themselves, and get hit by cars, not to mention the plows who can barely see them, I think this is a TERRIBLE DECISION! I mean I could care less about having school, but AT LEAST give us a delay. I mean, it's common sense!
